2009 Halo 3 Rules and Settings
By Lies | Published: March 25, 2009 6:03pm EST

General Rules

1. Players may not use a controller with Turbo capabilities, Wireless capabilities, or a Play and Charge Kit. Controllers with Turbo capabilities allow Players to map a button sequence to the Turbo button. Pressing that button results in their Character performing a set of actions that would normally require the Player to press multiple buttons.
2. Players may not use a controller that has been modified in such a way that it alters their Character’s abilities and/or in-game mechanics. Players may not use a controller that has been modified to include a Turbo button. Players are allowed to make cosmetic changes to their controller, however, Major League Gaming reserves the right to deny the use of any controller suspected of providing an unfair competitive advantage.
3. Players may not use a Wireless headset or a headset that requires power.
4. Players may not raise the volume of a TV above 60. This rule doesn’t apply to the Halo 3 Main Stage, Halo 3 Featured Station, or Players using headphones.
5. Players may not open the Xbox 360’s disc tray, access the Xbox 360’s dashboard, unplug anything from the TV, Xbox 360, or Astro Mixamp, or touch the power outlets.
6. Breaking any of General Rules #1-5 will result in a Warning. If a Player/Coach receives two Warnings, they will be issued a Technical Foul (See Pro Circuit Conduct Rules).
7. Players may use any available USB ports on the Xbox 360 as well as any open plug-ins on the Astro Mixamp and TV.
8. In the case of an Xbox 360/TV malfunction, the Game will be restarted from the beginning unless a Team was winning a Team King or Team Oddball Game by more than the time remaining in the Game.
9. When Players are given the option of using Full-Screen, Teams can use 1-4 TVs.
10. No Warm-Up Games may be played outside of scheduled Warm-Up periods.
11. During scheduled Warm-Up periods, the winning Team can stay, but the losing Team must get up.
12. During scheduled Warm-Up periods, Teams still active in the Event have priority over open Stations.
13. If a Team fails to report to their Station within 5 minutes of the announcement, they will Forfeit the 1st Game. 10 minutes after the announcement, a Team will Forfeit their Best of 3 Game Match or the 2nd Game of their Best of 5 Game Match. 15 minutes after the announcement, a Team will Forfeit their Best of 5 Game Match.

18. No placing the oddball out of reach, in an area where it won’t immediately “Play Ball”.
19. Breaking any of Gameplay Rules #1-17 will result in a Forfeit of the Game.
20. Intentionally breaking Gameplay Rule #18 will result in a Forfeit. Unintentionally breaking Gameplay Rule #18 will result in a Foul. Fouls stay with a Team throughout the Event. Two Fouls during one Game will result in a Forfeit of the Game. Once a Team reaches two Fouls, over the course of the Event, each additional Foul will result in a Forfeit of the Game. Players will be considered to have intentionally broken Gameplay Rule #18 if they deliberately throw the oddball into an area where it won’t immediately “Play Ball” or if they let their Character idle and die above an area where the oddball won’t immediately “Play Ball.”
21. Any sign of cheating may result in a Forfeit of the Game and possible ejection.
22. The higher seeded Team must play as the Red team and the lower seeded Team must play as the Blue team.
23. All Host choices must be made before the start of a Match.
24. Games started without the approval of a Referee will be restarted.
25. Quitting from a non-Team Slayer Game, before it has ended, without Referee’s permission, will leave your Team shorthanded or result in a Forfeit if all 4 Players quit.
26. Incorrectly ending a Game, without Referee’s permission, will result in a Forfeit of the Game.
27. Players must use their registered MLG Username during all Games. No Team Name abbreviations are allowed.

Open Bracket

1. The Open Bracket is a Best of 3 Game Match, Double Elimination Bracket.
2. Each Match will consist of 2 Team Slayer and 1 Multi Flag Game.
3. After losing a Match, Teams will fall into the Losers Bracket.
4. A Match loss in the Losers Bracket will result in elimination from the Event.
5. Teams will be seeded using the following criteria, in this order: Halo 3 Pro Circuit Rolling Rank Points and Halo 3 Online Qualifier Rank Points. Ties will be broken using the next available criterion, or randomly, if necessary.
6. Teams with no Halo 3 Rank Points will be seeded randomly.
7. When 16 Teams remain (4 Winners Bracket & 12 Losers Bracket), the Open Bracket will end and each Team will qualify for the Championship Bracket.
8. Players may use Full-Screen starting with Losers Round 6.
9. The higher seeded Team must choose to act as the higher or lower Seed for the purpose of Host choice. The lower seeded Team must choose 1 Game to Host. The higher seeded Team must Host the other 2 Games. Teams may request that they be allowed to give up their hosting privileges for 1 or more Games. The opposing Team can then accept or reject the opportunity to Host that Game(s).
10. If a Team Slayer Game should tie, it must be replayed.
11. Multi Flag Games will have an initial time limit of 15 minutes. If after 15 minutes, one Team is winning and their flag is in the starting position, the Game is over. If, however, the Game Score is tied after 15 minutes, the Game must continue and the next Team to score a Point will win the Game (Sudden Death). If the Game’s 30 minute time limit is reached without a winner, the Game must be replayed in Sudden Death.
12. If the initial time limit is reached in a Multi Flag Game, the difference in Points is 1, and the winning Team’s flag is not in the starting position, the Game must continue. If the losing Team scores a Point and ties the Game before the flag is returned, the Game must continue in Sudden Death, but if the flag is returned, the Game is over.
13. If Teams meet for a 2nd time, in the Open Bracket, their Match will expand to a Best of 7, include the previous Match, and pick up where that Match left off. For example, if Team A beat Team B 2 Games to 0 in the Winners Bracket, the Best of 7 will resume with Game 3 and Team A leading 2 Games to 0. If Game 3 of the Winners Bracket Match was not played, it must be played first with Host going to the Team that would’ve hosted in the Winners Bracket. The Team that won the first Match must choose to Host or not Host the 7th Game, if necessary. Host for Games 4-6 will be chosen in the opposite manner in which Host was chosen in the Winners Bracket (See Open Bracket Rule #9). The 7th Game will be Team King on Construct.
14. If Teams, in a Best of 7 Game Match, are scheduled to play a Game Type they have already played against each other in the Open Bracket, another Game Type will be chosen by the League Commissioner.

Championship Bracket

1. The Championship Bracket is a Best of 5 Game Match, Double Elimination Bracket.
2. Each Match will consist of 2 Team Slayer and 3 Multi Flag/Team King/Team Oddball Games.
3. Teams advancing from the Open Bracket start in the Championship Bracket’s Losers Bracket and need only lose 1 Losers Bracket Match before they are eliminated from the Event. Teams with Automatic Bracket Qualification for the Championship Bracket must lose 1 Winners Bracket and 1 Losers Bracket Match before they are eliminated (See Championship Bracket Rules #12 and #14).
4. Teams that lose in Winners Bracket Round 1 or 2 of the Championship Bracket will then play one or two Placement Rounds, which are used to determine where they will fall into the Losers Bracket. Teams cannot be eliminated from an Event by losing a Placement Round Match. Teams that did not lose a Match in the Open Bracket will play in Placement Round 3 against Teams that lost in Placement Round 1. Teams that lose in Placement Round 3 will start in Losers Round 3 of the Championship Bracket. Teams that win in Placement Round 3 will start in Losers Round 4. Teams that lose in Placement Round 2 will start in Losers Round 5. Teams that win in Placement Round 2 will start in Losers Round 6.
5. Teams eliminated by way of Losers Bracket Rounds 1-8 must play 1 or 2 Consolation Matches to determine their exact 5th-32nd Ranking. These Consolation Matches will begin on Saturday night and conclude on Sunday.
6. Teams will be seeded using the following criteria, in this order: Halo 3 Pro Circuit Rolling Rank Points and Open Bracket Seed. Teams earning Automatic Bracket Qualification will be seeded ahead of all Teams advancing from the Open Bracket. Teams that finish the Open Bracket without losing a Match will be seeded ahead of Teams that lose a Match in the Open Bracket. Teams that lose in the final Winners Bracket Round of the Open Bracket will be seeded ahead of all other Teams that lost a Match in the Open Bracket.
7. After the Top 16 Teams are seeded for the Championship Bracket, their starting position in the Winners Bracket will be randomized. The #1 and #2 Seeds will be placed in the top and bottom spots of the bracket respectively. All other Teams will be placed into groups, based on their Seed, and then randomly placed into their group’s spot in one of the four quadrants of the Winners Bracket. Group 1 consists of the #3 and #4 Seeds, Group 2 consists of the #5, #6, #7, and #8 Seeds, Group 3 consist of the #9, #10, #11, and #12 Seeds, and Group 4 consists of the #13, #14, #15, and #16 Seeds.
8. The higher seeded Team must choose to act as the higher or lower Seed for the purpose of Host choice. The higher seeded Team must choose 1 Game to Host. Then, the lower seeded Team must choose 2 Games to Host. The higher seeded Team must Host the other 2 Games. Teams may request that they be allowed to give up their hosting privileges for 1 or more Games. The opposing Team can then accept or reject the opportunity to Host that Game(s).
9. If a Team Slayer, Team King, or Team Oddball Game should tie, the Game must be replayed.
12. If Teams meet for a 2nd time, in the Championship Bracket, their Match will expand to a Best of 11, include the previous Match, and pick up where that Match left off. For example, if Team A beat Team B 3 Games to 0 in the Winners Bracket, the Best of 11 will resume with Game 4 and Team A leading 3 Games to 0. If Games 4 and/or 5 of the Winners Bracket Match were not played, they must be played first with Host for each Game going to the Team that would’ve hosted in the Winners Bracket. The Team that won the first Match must choose to Host or not Host the 11th Game, if necessary. Host for Games 6-10 will be chosen in the opposite manner in which Host was chosen in the Winners Bracket (See Championship Bracket Rule #8).
13. If Teams in a Best of 11 Game Match are scheduled to play a Game Type they have already played against each other in the Championship Bracket, another Game Type will be chosen by the League Commissioner.
14. If the Teams meeting in the Finals have not yet faced each other in the Championship Bracket and the Team coming from the Losers Bracket wins a Match, the Winners Bracket Finals Game Types must be played in order to break the tie since both Teams would only have one Match loss. Before the start of the Finals, the Team without a Match loss must choose to have higher Seed hosting privileges for the Finals or Winners Bracket Finals set of Game Types (See Championship Bracket Rule #8).
