At the start of the 07 season, everyone on 5k including myself were so excited, yet nervous at the same time cause we had so much to prove coming in with the undisputed title of “online warriors”. We won the MLG War of the Web online tournament, as well as another tournament online, both bringing in a significant amount of money, which paid our way to our first tournament, Charlotte (This made me a big supporter of online tournaments, as it often helps people if they haven’t been to an event with the monetary part of getting to an event). After our success at Charlotte, we were even more excited to prove all of the doubters wrong who said we were just another one shot wonder. We all knew we were capable of placing higher, but we had a lot of work to do before we would be able to. We got dominated by the Agency and Carbon at Charlotte, thus we wanted to shorten this gap between us and the top 3 teams. Much of our improvement came from our lans with FB, and we were finally contending with the top 3 teams. Unfortunately, we never crossed the hump into the top 3, which was a large disappointment for us all. Our frustration was apparent, as we began to argue more than we usually did in game. I think a lot of this came from some of the team changes we had considered throughout the season, which distanced our team somewhat more than what we had been. All in all though, I couldn’t have pictured finishing off the season with anyone else besides our original team, as we had seen so much doubt and then success together, on top of the fact that every event had been a great experience with these guys. After Vegas, I think all of us were thinking a team change was in the future, but I don’t think any of us regretted sticking out the 07 season together and I hope the best for Justin and Lester this upcoming season!
On to my new team, the Agency. All of us are extremely excited to begin the 08 season and in the process working out the kinks that come with all new teams. We have been playing a lot and doing well (when Roy and I aren’t lagging, which lately, hasn’t been often). We are set to lan with Str8, so we are all pumped for this and hopefully both of our teams with benefit a great deal from this.

On Friday, we all woke up and were excited to finally play, so we went to the venue and waited outside. While we were waiting, Puckett walks up and asks me and Roy to come play a 2v2 against Victory and Halogod. We of course agreed, and got to go into the venue a little before the other people who weren’t playing in the 2v2 matches. We played Midship snipers and lost by less than 10 kills due to the fact that we had not practiced the gametype at all, as well as a sub par performance from Roy. By the time we were done, everyone was filing in and we made our way to the pro players lounge, which was the first time I had been in it, so it was a really fun experience playing on the stations in it and warming up. The FFA began where I won the first 2 rounds but lost in 5th place during the 3rd round.
On Saturday, we slept in because we did not have to play till a later time so we were fairly well rested. When 1st round of pro bracket came, we went to our station and won 3-0 against Dr. Bob and Quantum’s team. Our next match up was against Legendz on main-stage, which we were all excited, but a little nervous for. We knew all of their players were very good and knew it would be a good place for us to prove ourselves worthy of our 4th seed. I don’t remember many of the games, besides the 2nd game because I went 25-12 on Beaver Creek TS and all I remember is being extremely excited that my team was working very well together. We won that series 3-1.
Our next match up was against STR8 RIPPIN. We were also very anxious for this match up because both my team and theirs were going into the series very confident. We had a few of our better gametypes like Midship Bomb, which we did not lose throughout Meadowlands. We ended up winning the series 3-1. After this series, we were all ecstatic because we were guaranteed top 6 and were through playing on Saturday. The next day, we were to face the best team on the MLG pro circuit, Final Boss. We went into this series with a positive attitude, especially after we won the first game, which was extremely close. This alone was not enough to topple the giants, as we lost the series 3-1 after an embarrassing 5:00 to like 43 second Midship ball game. Even though we lost, I was happy that we lost to FB, who deserved their number 1 finish again. Congrats to you guys.
We went to the losers bracket lined up to face The agency, who had handily 3-0d us in Charlotte. We started off with a win although im not sure what the gametype was. We were very happy after this game because we knew we had a chance of winning and would not be steamrolled over like we were in Charlotte. The second game was Midship ts, which we have never been very good at. The Agency proved that the series would be a close one as they defeated us quickly in this game. Going into game 3, Midship ball, we knew that the Agency would play similar to that of FB, but we were still not able to come out on top. I think this is where we began to lose hope in our chances of winning, as the next gametype was Sanctuary ctf, which is one of their better gametypes. The game was very long and intense, as we were tied at 2-2 well beyond the 15 minute mark. We end up winning the match after some extremely clutch sniping from Fear. The 5th game was lockout ts, which we were unable to win due to Halogods very smart play with host, and Elamites control at snipe.
At this point, we were all fairly disappointed and really just wanted to watch FB in the finals, as well as Perfect Storms amazing run. Our consolation match was against NLR, who we had beat in Charlotte, so we went in confident, but tired nonetheless. We ended up winning 3-1 after losing the first game. This was the end of our tournament, which was a bitter sweet one for 5K. We had placed 5th, which was still a great feat considering the teams in attendance. We had took games from both the Agency and 1 from FB. Our improvement from Charlotte was clear and decisive. ON the other hand, we had not placed as well as we had in Charlotte and felt like we were capable of more. I think our 5th place finish was for the better, as it shows that we need to continue to practice and improve, especially at some of our weaker gametypes. In terms of the experience, it was unforgettable and I urge whoever may read this and strives to attend an event, do so because look where I have ended up after attending only my 2nd. Anything you dream is possible and I hope that everyone may experience what I am having the privilege to experience at MLG.
