Instinct in 09!!

Columbus 09
- October 16, 2009 - 9:20am

Hey guys, so I haven’t blogged in a while and I figured id start by talking about Columbus. This was a turning point in the season for us and a somewhat controversial one after the event. Leading up to the event, we all practiced very hard. We had a good LAN with Carbon, which we ended up winning the overall series. This gave us some extra confidence going into the event because we knew Carbon was a solid team and had a lot of potential with their new pickup in Defy. All of the guys were a lot of fun to LAN with, it was a great overall experience. I had never really gotten to know any of the guys from Carbon, so it was really cool finally getting the chance to do so. Columbus is also close to home so my brother and I were able to drive, which is always nice not having to deal with airport complications. The drive wasn’t too bad, and Kiaeneto and Old spice hooked us up at the event with warm-up suits and custom sweatshirts, which was awesome to see everything in person. Friday started off with us against End Result. We were able to win 3-0. Next up, we were up against BtH who were fresh off their 3rd place meadowlands finish. We knew this would be a difficult round 2 but were able to win 3-1. After our round 2 matchup, we had our 2nd Old Spice autograph session of the year. We had yet another good turnout and sold quite a few hats. It never gets old to see a huge line of people all wanting your teams autographs. Pretty surreal. Next up was Str8. This was a pretty intense series. Every game was close and it all came down to game 5. They got off to a strong start this game, and put us on the defensive immediately. We were able to make a pretty good comeback, but could not pull out the win. This was a heartbreaker loss, but I think we did a pretty good job of not letting it get us down. After we lost, we all went back to the room and had a team talk and tried our best to prepare for Sunday. First up was Classic, a team that we were confident going up against but was definitely a threat. We started off strong winning game 1, and that’s about all that went our way. They controlled the series after that and knocked us out of the tournament. This was a rough loss because we all expected to win, and this tied for my worst placing so far so it was a big disappointment. Me and Roy ended up driving home on Sunday, I think neither of us really wanted to stick around to watch the finals. After the event came the tough decision making. We were obviously all disappointed with our finish and none of us expected to place as bad as we did. This is when we started looking into possibly picking up Ghost and decided to do it. With there being one less event this year, there isn’t as much time to find the right squad for nationals. Our decision was very controversial within the community, but I think that is inevitable anytime you drop someone like Dave. He’s the nicest, most genuine guy you will ever meet and I am glad that we are all still on good terms. After everything was said and done, practice commenced. Ill be blogging again shortly about Dallas. Thanks for reading.

That was a good read! But, where's your Dallas blog??? You guys beat Str8 Rippin 3-1 i think, but I didn't get to watch it because it wasn't main stage. I only got to see you get 3-0'd by Carbon. :/ Ghostayame didn't seem to contribute much. I'm excited about FearItSelf though. I've seen his gameplay with Final Boss. I feel he'll do better with you guys because Instinct is more of an aggressive team, so he can unleash himself to his full potential. I'm extremely excited for Anaheim. You and Roy deserve an event win more than anyone else. So yea.... I want a Dallas blog. :( And tell Roy to make a blog... -.- And.. nice +170 Onslaught CTF spawn killing game against talent and the 3 other people. lol.

"I had never really gotten to know any of the guys from Carbon" What was your first impression of Walshy?

To tell you the truth I was pissed about Walshy's departure. But have you thought about dropping Neighbor? You keep changing the position First Soviet then Walshy, Then Ghost, now Fearitself. Have you thought of dropping neighbor and picking someone else up? Just something to think about.

Meadowlands 09
- May 4, 2009 - 9:04pm

Meadowlands was a very bitter sweet tournament for me. On one hand, we got 2nd place so its hard to be too upset about that. But the finals was ours to lose as TD had to beat us twice, and they not did that but it wasnt really a match from the get go. They were just dominating us and most of the competition. I think our team was fairly satisfied with 2nd because going into this tournament, we definitely didnt feel as prepared as we would have liked or normally are. We didnt have a lan as the team we planned on lanning backed out closer to the tournament and everyone else had already had their lans set by then. This was unfortunate because I feel like lanning before each tournament is crucial practice that gets all of the last minute kinks worked out and can really have an effect on how a team places. Knowing that we wouldnt have a lan, we all decided to fly to Masons house so we could all play side by side while we scrimmed on xbl, so I think that helped us in getting used to sitting next to each other, watching each others screens, etc. It was a lot of fun hanging out with each other right before the tournament. We even got in a 2v2 basketball game. It was a relatively close game but me and Mason took home the gold, old man Walsh just couldnt keep up lol. As for the tournament, we played relatively well up until the finals. I dont remember much of round 1, except losing game 1 and then taking the next 3. Round 2 was against Ambush. I knew they would put up a good fight because we played Tizoxic the week before at a local and he impressed me a lot. So once again we drop game 1, and take the next 3. I remember playing pretty well this series, but every game was close. Round 3 put us up against Final Boss, a team which has a lot of history with ours. Their is always a fun rivalry between me/Roy and Mackeo/Victory because we teamed in the past. As well as with Walshy. As was our ritual this tourney, we lost game 1 i believe and took the next 3. I remember this was a pretty good series with Mason raping as usual. Next was BTH, who took us to 4 games with us edging it out 3-1. They played well against us but we were very confident in this series and it showed i think. This was the first time me and my brother had made it to the finals through the winners bracket so that was a nice accomplishment, but we still had one more match to play before we could celebrate. We then got to sit and wait to see who would make it out of the losers bracket and face us in the finals. TD ended up beating BTH and made it to the finals. They were just too much and ended up beating us pretty handily. I give them props, they played very well. Pistola seemed to be on fire the entire tournament. After the tournament, none of us seemed too down, we were all just excited to prepare even harder for the next event. The day i got back from the tournament, I dug my xbox out and began gaming immediately. Im extremely tired of coming so close, yet so far from winning a tournament. We already have a lan set up with Carbon May 15th-20th, and might be setting up another one. I cant wait for Colombus and hope all the Instinct fans are coming out to support us! You guys have been so awesome and be on the lookout for some goodies from the team :) Sorry for the long block of words. Lunchbox

The Off Season
- January 26, 2009 - 9:08pm

So I havent blogged in a while so I thought id give everyone an update on what ive been up to in the off-season. It has been a very relaxed off season thus far for me, ive been gaming pretty much every night, along with lessons and gametime. If you are interested in purchasing anything from me, msg me on xbox live and we will work something out. Anyways, ive also been playing quite a bit of Left 4 Dead. For those of you who have not played this game before, i reccommend it to anyone who enjoys a fast paced, killing frenzie game. It is very entertaining and playing gamebattles is a good time. We recently added a game room to my house as well, so me and Roy will be able to play next to each other now during our scrims on xbox live. As for our team, we are going to be gaming harder than ever till the first event. Mason has over 1900 experience, so we all have some catching up to do, but i plan on pulling a few all nighters to catch up. We practiced a bit for the first time in a while last night and everything was clicking really well. All of us get along very well and are so motivated to play and improve. Im pumped for the event, it seems like the off-season has flown by with only a little over 2 months till the Meadowlands. Im more confident in this team than I have been for any other ive been on. Also, Kiaeneto just recently launched their new site so everyone should go check it out. Theres lots of pictures of pro players modeling all of the clothing and supporting all the sick new designs. I guess thats all for now so ill see you everyone at the first event! Lunchbox P.S.Thanks to all those who have supported us and continue to do so. It is much appreciated.

Lunchbox - Halo - A Fresh Start
- February 27, 2008 - 8:43pm

I get asked on a very common basis, “What happened to 5k?” I just wanted to clear the air on the matter and touch base on my new team, the Agency.

At the start of the 07 season, everyone on 5k including myself were so excited, yet nervous at the same time cause we had so much to prove coming in with the undisputed title of “online warriors”. We won the MLG War of the Web online tournament, as well as another tournament online, both bringing in a significant amount of money, which paid our way to our first tournament, Charlotte (This made me a big supporter of online tournaments, as it often helps people if they haven’t been to an event with the monetary part of getting to an event). After our success at Charlotte, we were even more excited to prove all of the doubters wrong who said we were just another one shot wonder. We all knew we were capable of placing higher, but we had a lot of work to do before we would be able to. We got dominated by the Agency and Carbon at Charlotte, thus we wanted to shorten this gap between us and the top 3 teams. Much of our improvement came from our lans with FB, and we were finally contending with the top 3 teams. Unfortunately, we never crossed the hump into the top 3, which was a large disappointment for us all. Our frustration was apparent, as we began to argue more than we usually did in game. I think a lot of this came from some of the team changes we had considered throughout the season, which distanced our team somewhat more than what we had been. All in all though, I couldn’t have pictured finishing off the season with anyone else besides our original team, as we had seen so much doubt and then success together, on top of the fact that every event had been a great experience with these guys. After Vegas, I think all of us were thinking a team change was in the future, but I don’t think any of us regretted sticking out the 07 season together and I hope the best for Justin and Lester this upcoming season!

On to my new team, the Agency. All of us are extremely excited to begin the 08 season and in the process working out the kinks that come with all new teams. We have been playing a lot and doing well (when Roy and I aren’t lagging, which lately, hasn’t been often). We are set to lan with Str8, so we are all pumped for this and hopefully both of our teams with benefit a great deal from this.

R.I.P. 5K. Though i was sad when i heard you guys were splitting up, i am impressed by what you guys have been doing. All three teams (The Agency, Triggers Down, and Bad Co.) have been doing well, and are top 3 caliber. But seriously, what am i going to do with my poster now?

MLG Meadowlands
- June 14, 2007 - 8:58pm

To start off, I would like to thank MLG for another amazing tournament. It has been a irreplaceable experience attending these tournaments with my team and meeting all of the players I had only known from their voices. Pre-Meadowlands, Me and the rest of 5K lanned with FB, which prepared us extremely well for Meadowlands. I liked to thank them for the lan becasue it helped us improve so much. Our improvement was very apparent as after each day, the games became closer and closer and we began to build some confidence. On Thursday, we left OGREhouse and went to the airport to fly to New Jersey (Thanks to the OGREdad for driving us and letting us stay).

On Friday, we all woke up and were excited to finally play, so we went to the venue and waited outside. While we were waiting, Puckett walks up and asks me and Roy to come play a 2v2 against Victory and Halogod. We of course agreed, and got to go into the venue a little before the other people who weren’t playing in the 2v2 matches. We played Midship snipers and lost by less than 10 kills due to the fact that we had not practiced the gametype at all, as well as a sub par performance from Roy. By the time we were done, everyone was filing in and we made our way to the pro players lounge, which was the first time I had been in it, so it was a really fun experience playing on the stations in it and warming up. The FFA began where I won the first 2 rounds but lost in 5th place during the 3rd round.

On Saturday, we slept in because we did not have to play till a later time so we were fairly well rested. When 1st round of pro bracket came, we went to our station and won 3-0 against Dr. Bob and Quantum’s team. Our next match up was against Legendz on main-stage, which we were all excited, but a little nervous for. We knew all of their players were very good and knew it would be a good place for us to prove ourselves worthy of our 4th seed. I don’t remember many of the games, besides the 2nd game because I went 25-12 on Beaver Creek TS and all I remember is being extremely excited that my team was working very well together. We won that series 3-1.

Our next match up was against STR8 RIPPIN. We were also very anxious for this match up because both my team and theirs were going into the series very confident. We had a few of our better gametypes like Midship Bomb, which we did not lose throughout Meadowlands. We ended up winning the series 3-1. After this series, we were all ecstatic because we were guaranteed top 6 and were through playing on Saturday. The next day, we were to face the best team on the MLG pro circuit, Final Boss. We went into this series with a positive attitude, especially after we won the first game, which was extremely close. This alone was not enough to topple the giants, as we lost the series 3-1 after an embarrassing 5:00 to like 43 second Midship ball game. Even though we lost, I was happy that we lost to FB, who deserved their number 1 finish again. Congrats to you guys.

We went to the losers bracket lined up to face The agency, who had handily 3-0d us in Charlotte. We started off with a win although im not sure what the gametype was. We were very happy after this game because we knew we had a chance of winning and would not be steamrolled over like we were in Charlotte. The second game was Midship ts, which we have never been very good at. The Agency proved that the series would be a close one as they defeated us quickly in this game. Going into game 3, Midship ball, we knew that the Agency would play similar to that of FB, but we were still not able to come out on top. I think this is where we began to lose hope in our chances of winning, as the next gametype was Sanctuary ctf, which is one of their better gametypes. The game was very long and intense, as we were tied at 2-2 well beyond the 15 minute mark. We end up winning the match after some extremely clutch sniping from Fear. The 5th game was lockout ts, which we were unable to win due to Halogods very smart play with host, and Elamites control at snipe.

At this point, we were all fairly disappointed and really just wanted to watch FB in the finals, as well as Perfect Storms amazing run. Our consolation match was against NLR, who we had beat in Charlotte, so we went in confident, but tired nonetheless. We ended up winning 3-1 after losing the first game. This was the end of our tournament, which was a bitter sweet one for 5K. We had placed 5th, which was still a great feat considering the teams in attendance. We had took games from both the Agency and 1 from FB. Our improvement from Charlotte was clear and decisive. ON the other hand, we had not placed as well as we had in Charlotte and felt like we were capable of more. I think our 5th place finish was for the better, as it shows that we need to continue to practice and improve, especially at some of our weaker gametypes. In terms of the experience, it was unforgettable and I urge whoever may read this and strives to attend an event, do so because look where I have ended up after attending only my 2nd. Anything you dream is possible and I hope that everyone may experience what I am having the privilege to experience at MLG.
