Treeskunk Productions releases the 9th
Episode of Outpost: Isil
- August 28, 2008 - 6:31pm

Download Links for Outpost: Isil Episode 9

Treeskunk Productions just released the ninth episode of the series and by far the most action packed so far. The tension between the Human and Elite bases finally snaps in an all-out assault by the Humans on the Elite in attempt to recover their lost documents. The Elites are completely unprepared for the Human barrage having spent much of the time prior to the attack arguing about the Legend of Respawn, the mysterious communications from spec-ops commander Halmat, and various methods of pronouncing Freng's name. Watch as the action unfolds in "Full Frontal," the ninth episode of Outpost: Isil!

Where's my VoD
- April 12, 2008 - 9:10pm

Ok MLG, i know working with ESPN is amazing and everything, but it's has compromised the VoD presentation for over 3hrs of gameplay on Saturday. We're sitting in IRC as trigger119 (++ rep him) gives us text announcements on matches. That's not cool. This is definitely something that needs to be worked out before the next MLG circuit event. I want to be able to watch matches without interference. Btw, I like the new interface. WMP was far too troublesome and this new flash system is far more effective. Unfortunately the GoW stream won't work at all for me because Silverlight is annoying on Macs.

MLG Meadowlands Predictions
- April 11, 2008 - 4:32pm

I think that the 2008 MLG Pro Circuit is going to be amazing. And it all starts tonight (and this weekend) with MLG Meadowlands. Not only will it be the first ESPN-covered MLG event, but it will also be the first with Halo 3. MLG really has come quite some way from when I first joined (you had to pay for VoD?) and the idea of live video-game tournament broadcasts back in the day with HaloTV. So congrats MLG, you're awesome. Here are my predictions (for Halo 3 only cause I don't follow other stuff)...

Str8 Rippin

Look for Str8 to take MLG Meadowlands. I personally think they deserve to win but Final Boss seems to always be there waiting to snatch victory out of their hands. I think that with the transition to Halo 3, Str8 Rippin definitely has the ability and drive to sweep this contest.

Final Boss

I think this is the year Final Boss falls from its usual podium. Why? Not only is Str8 Rippin looking amazing this season, but there are many more skilled teams fighting for this because of the GameBattles integration to the standings. I'm sure some of those teams may not perform well under pressure, something Final Boss excels at, but nevertheless it's not going to be the usual straight, easy run for any team this year.

So yeah, that's how I think those two teams will do cause I have no idea about the others really (sorry). So good luck to everybody participating. And good luck to the MLG staff on pulling this one off with only minor hitches and I hope you have a great season opener!

Hey, if you haven't heard of the machinima series called "Outpost: Isil" from Treeskunk Productions (which I'm a part of :D), then you should check it out. It's an action/comedy series that takes place on Valhalla (amongst other maps) and is a remake of the Halo 2 series Outpost: Coagulation. So if you want some good ol' fashioned machinima awesomeness that isn't Red vs. Blue, then check out the series!

Speedtesting...of Teh Interw3bs!
- November 1, 2007 - 12:39am

Yup, so I remembered I did a speedtest once. Like last year and a half ago. I was happy with my cable internet (Charter) in my Homewood, Alabama house. It was about 3MBps down and something small up. Which really sucked btw.

Anyways, I'm up at the University of Washington. The 'net's a bit faster up here. Just a wee bit...here's one of the average runs...

So for you who don't know, that means i can download a 9.65 MB file in one second and can upload at a little faster than 0.25 megabytes a second (so 4 seconds for a megabyte) for those specific run. The fastest ping I've recorded on Speedtest.net is 4ms, which is hella fast. The fastest down is 77501 kb/s and the fastest up is 7053 kb/s.

So what does that mean? I don't lag :D That much.

Except when the entire school is on YouTube at night.

The True Final Boss
- October 16, 2007 - 6:42am

Final Boss

Final Boss has shown their true colors. Their true ability to utterly and completely dominate their opponents. And they didn't just dominate. They destroyed. They decimated. They displayed what has to be considered almost perfection. They did the unimaginable, they went undefeated at the national championship level. No one could stand up against the force that is Walshy, OGRE 1, OGRE 2, and Strongside. From start to finish, Final Boss outplayed, out-slayed, and out-scored every team they faced. Pain X, FBI The Agency, and Carbon had no chance against such an unsurmountable power. Would it have ended differently had Str8 Rippin made it to face Final Boss? We will never know (at least this year). What we do know is that there is now no question about Final Boss's dominance over the Halo 2 playing field. They "took back their podium" following last year's loss to Carbon and cemented their place as the number one Halo 2 4v4 team in the world. What led to that comeback? Final Boss's newest member, Strongside.

Strongside provided the kills and the support that gave the rest of Final Boss the opportunity to outperform everyone they met along the path to the championship match. But it wasn't just Strongside, every player had their outstanding matches, but it was truly Strongside that made the difference that turned the balance from last year's outcome. Despite their best efforts, Karma, GH057ayame, Gandhi, and ShocKWav3 could not turn the tide in the their favor as they fell 6-0 to Final Boss in the championship match. Final Boss simply shut down the Carbon offense with an incredible show of slaying. Strongside racked up an incredible 35 kills in the first match of CTF Warlock while OGRE 2 followed close behind with 27 frags. The second match of TS on Midship was close to the very end with Final Boss enduring to a 50-49 win with Strongside once again leading the kills with 21 (10 deaths). As Carbon watched their championship repeat hopes quickly fading, they were once again overpowered by Strongside's slaying in the final game of the championship, Midship CTF. Strongside racked up an amazing 40 kills while both OGRE 1 and OGRE 2 carried 33 and 30 kills (respectively). Walshy provided the tactical movements and kills to give Final Boss an insurmountable 4-0 lead with only mere minutes remaining. Carbon attempted to rally, but simply fell once again to the overwhelming might of Strongside and the OGREs.

What does this mean? It means that Final Boss is the greatest 4v4 team in the Halo 2 competitive world. Could Str8 Rippon have bested them? I think not. Final Boss played the game to perfection. Even if Str8 Rippin had had the chance to come face to face with Final Boss, I think the outcome would have been the same. Final Boss is the best. No questions need be asked anymore. And with Halo 3 ready and waiting, they may very well be locked in the record books as the greatest Halo 2 team of all time. How will they fair in the inevitable shift to Halo 3? Let's just say that I think we'll be hearing more of them next season.

So once again, congratulations Final Boss on earning the right to call yourself the MLG Pro Circuit National Champions! And congrats to all other winners and losers alike as you are the future of competitive gaming. Can't wait until next year!

- August 19, 2007 - 9:17pm

BACK!!!!

Glad to see some more competition on the MLG playing field and that T2 hasn't gone lame.

*Update*

Congrats to Str8 Rippon for their incredible victory over FBI The Agency in the Loser Bracket match. Good luck to them against the ever-formidable Final Boss and maybe we'll see a new champion for MLG Chicago. Wewt!

*Update* Again

Congrats to Final Boss for their dominating 6-1 victory over Str8 Rippon. But more importantly, congrats to Str8 Rippon for showing that they're not out of the Halo 2 4v4 spotlight. They have really worked to get back up top and it obviously shows. Maybe next time eh? Now someone just needs to beat Final Boss...

Carbon Aftermath
- July 23, 2007 - 3:15am

Carbon's defeat of Final Boss was a much needed confidence booster for all MLG Halo 2 teams and a reminder to everyone that no one always wins . Following a close winners bracket loss, Final Boss fought back to the championship round through FBI The Agency only to be bested once again by Carbon. Despite Final Boss's amazing opening performance on Beaver Creek Team Slayer with a 50-24 victory over Carbon, they could not maintain that momentum and fell to Carbon in CTF Sanctuary, Midship Team Slayer, and Lockout Oddball, loosing the MLG Dallas championship match. Carbon has once again broken the "best" team's winning streak and put into question Final Boss's warranting such a status. But more importantly, Carbon has rekindled the competitiveness of the MLG Pro Circuit, much as they did last year by defeating Final Boss and winning the MLG Halo 4v4 Championship. However, unlike last year, Carbon is not the only team capable of overthrowing Final Boss as the MLG powerhouse. With teams like FBI The Agency nipping at their heels, Carbon and Final Boss must be careful not to fall victim to one of the newer teams to the MLG Circuit, a loss Carbon has already experienced. So as all the teams once again look forward to the next stop in Chicago, Final Boss must once again re-evaluate their gameplay and strategy to take on the new threat that is Carbon. So once again congratulations to Carbon for their victory and great job to everyone else who competed. Also congrats to Xena and Smiley for being the first female gamers to make it to the championship bracket along with their team Genuwin.

Congrats Carbon and Str8 Rippon!
- December 18, 2006 - 11:40pm

Their new partnership with MLG means only bigger and better things from the two teams next season and for the MLG league as a whole. The new investments, the TV series, and the newly signed members have firmly seated MLG as the leading videogame tournament league. It's only a matter of time before everyone knows MLG like they know NBA and NFL and can watch it on ESPN and other sports networks. Videogaming isn't what it was ten years ago, it's becoming more than just a hobby, it's becoming a sport. Congrats again to the Carbon and Str8 Rippon and good luck to the both of them next year. MLG FTW!!

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
- November 18, 2006 - 7:50pm

Hey everybody. I haven't told anyone really yet, but my high school band will be marching in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We leave early Monday morning for New York City and will return late Saturday. It's going to be freaking awesome, aside from having to march in a parade of course. So I more than likely won't be around the internet much for the week, so don't do anything too crazy without me. If you're watching the parade, my band is the Homewood High School (Patriot Marching Band) and we should be the first band in the parade. Hope ya have a happy holiday! Good luck to all during the MLG Pro Circuit Championships!

Bungie Unveils HaloWars RTS Game!
- September 28, 2006 - 1:39am

Today Bungie unveiled one of its "secret side projects" at the X06 Game Show entitled "HaloWars." While they will not be the actual developers of the game, they will of course be providing the content and quality expected from a "Halo" game. The HaloWars game is being developed by one of the leading RTS (real-time strategy) game companies, Ensemble Studios. The creators of the wildly popular "Age of Empires" and "Age of Mythology" series, Halo fans can breathe a sigh of relief with the knowledge that the Halo Universe will continue to be in good hands. While the only peeks at the upcoming game have been a pre-rendered cinematic trailer and several desktop images (both rendered and drawn), there are several known details abou the HaloWars game. The game will explore the time of the first Human - Covenant contact and the resulting war leading up to the original Halo storyline. The game will be exclusively for the Xbox 360, a move that has many gamers crying foul as console RTS games have been only marginally successful. However, the recent Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth proved that RTS games can function well on the console interface, and that the Xbox 360 would be the ideal medium for the game. While many gamers are hoping for a PC release of the game, there were no words about such a undertaking. It's somewhat ironic that a fledgling gaming company whose original intent for their RTS game called Halo would go full circle to a FPS and back to a RTS on a console. Hopefully, the Ensemble team will put together another quality game and us gamers will get to send in a squadron of Spartans backed by Warthogs and Scorpian Tanks to fight the mighty Covenant.

Also announced was a new game studio assembled by Microsoft and Peter Jackson (WETA Digital) called "Wingnut Studios," that will be producing another "Halo-themed" game in the Halo Universe. Currently nothing is known about the game, but expect to hear a lot of it as the Halo movie's release gets closer.

New MLG Pro v4
- September 14, 2006 - 12:44am

I really like the design. Truly, I do. But it barely works for me. Even in Firefox it's fraught with errors visually and in the php code. At least in Firefox some of the media will load for me, but Safari is definitely not supported :( Other than the usual site-launch errors, this looks like a pretty successful launch and hopefully will help carry MLG into the future... now to turn all my BBCode filled entries into HTML...what fun

bbcode parser is on the critical list of things getting fixed soon. the php errror up top is caused very regularly and requires a manual fix each time. that is at the top of what is a relatively small list of criticals. ive yet to make my list of bugs to fix, but overall HOW BOUT DEM WWWS?

Amazon Video Store Goes Live!!!
- September 8, 2006 - 1:02am

Amazon's Unbox online video store has gone online today after much debate. The site features full-length feature movies available for download. Prices range from $10 to $20 and you get both a full-sized DVD quality version and a version optimized for portable video players (Windows Medai format...but not iPod?). The inclusion of the full DVD quality video is a brilliant idea, but unless Amazon forfeits a massive amount of bandwidth to support the downloads of thousands if not tens of thousands of downloads simultaneously, it's going to be a problem. That's where a Bit-Torrented idea could come in handy where peers share files to others who have purchased the file across a secured connection of sorts.

Check it out here and get ready for the online video store to take off. Apple is expected to launch its own version in a special press conference this coming Tuesday (12th) that will function within its iTunes music store. The problem is, that if the iTunes version lacks a DVD or high-quality video, Amazon's Unbox could quickly overtake it as the superior source because the majority of people don't want to watch videos on their tiny iPod screen or blown up into a pixelated mess on their computer monitor. Frankly, that's what I believe too and would use Amazon's Unbox over iTunes should that be the case.

Hackers, start your engines, there's probably a new DRM for you to crack!

RIP Crocodile Hunter...
- September 4, 2006 - 6:28pm

If you haven't already heard, Steve Irwin, the "Crocodile Hunter," died yesterday when stung by a stingray off the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. He was swimming above the creature when it randomly attacked him with its poisonous barb. Stingrays are normally passive creatures and when they do attack, rarely fatal. However, the stingray attacked his chest, its barb penetrating the chest cavity to strike his heart, delivering its venom to the pumping house of the body. The rapid spread of the poison through the body via the heart and the distance from a hospital sealed the fate of Irwin. Known for his popular TV show, his recklessness when dealing with dangerous creatures, and his famous "Crikey!", Irwin brought the world of exotic and dangerous creatures into countless homes.
