Empire Suffer Early Loss to iP in Shadowrun

| Shadowrun’s action has kicked off here in Orlando. The tight 16-team bracket saw some closely-contested matches in the tournament’s opening round. One particular team, sixth-seeded Empire caught an unexpectedly early challenge in the first round when they faced off against iP. Empire opened on Nerve Center Attrition with a two troll, human and elf build. While they used an unconventional strategy, opting to have a troll purchase AMGs first round, the double troll seemed to be an overall hindrance. The team lacked mobility and once separated, were quickly picked apart. After three rounds, the team had amassed a mere two kills. Empire finally took a round, as Ryanator implemented an effective glider strategy. The glider tech allowed him to float unharmed above the other team’s AMGs and strangles that littered the arena, as Ryanator unleashed waves of mini-gun fire. While the tactic managed to help the team take a round, iP took the game 6 – 1. Prior to Game 2 of Lobby Extraction, Empire made a key tactical adjustment by switching XhinBuu from troll to elf. With Fraction handing out, XhinBuu invested in teleport and resurrect. Although the team gained a lead by taking the opening round, they soon found their abilities overly imbalanced. XhinBuu had purchased three magics while the team’s human was still fighting with only teleport and a pistol. Although Empire would produce a closer contest without the dual-troll build, losing only by a 6 – 4 tally, iP took the game and the match. In Winners Bracket Round 2, iP will take on the Chicago bronze medalists, Secret Weapon.
