With these changes, we saw a more minimalist elf build, for the most part. Gust and smoke were seen with far less frequency, as the utility of giving a troll or human an extra magic or tech was seen to be far greater than giving an elf an accessory magic. While AMGs can be quickcast, the utility of being able to immediately throw a precision anti-magic generator was often preferred over gust. Most importantly, regardless of build, the most important strategic element appeared to be cohesion. Awareness of what each of the two teams brought to the table was key. Opting not to buy teleports on Pinnacle often proved to be a key tactical decision. First-round SMG purchases and a push to force close-range combat often paid off. The builds and strategies seen in Orlando were incredibly inventive, as teams frequently found themselves up against a never-before-seen situation. The evolution of Shadowrun’s competitive landscape has been incredibly exciting to watch. With such a mix up in the standings, the culmination of the Shadowrun season in Las Vegas is sure to bring plenty of new strategies and thrilling matches.
