| Ogre 2 and Walshy of top-ranked Halo 2 team, Final Boss, became the first dual-title professionals on the MLG Pro Circuit in Chicago when they won the Shadowrun tournament. Elamite Warrior, member of Str8 Rippin, attempted to follow in their footsteps at the Shadowrun National Championships in Las Vegas. Elamite joined MDG Pure and the team found themselves in the Open Finals against Uprising, just one win from the Championship Bracket. Pure faced an uphill battle, however, because they entered the Finals down 2-0 to Uprising, following a loss earlier in the tourney. Needing to win four games before Uprising could win two, Pure broke a 3-3 tie in Game 1 of the Finals by winning three of the final four rounds. Oldbie led the way for Pure, with 14 kills to just nine deaths. The win made the series score 2-1. Game 2 of the Finals moved to Nerve Center (Small) for an Attrition affair. The talents of Elamite were put to full use in the first round, as he thwarted body-clearing attempts by Uprising, which turned the tide, and then smashed the remaining players for Uprising. Oldbie's round-two shotgun helped give Pure a 2-0 lead in Game 2, but Uprising grabbed serious momentum in round three and parlayed it into four straight round wins. Up 4-2 in the game, Pure needed a win in round seven and got it in an amazing way. Down to just Elamite, who was bleeding out, Pure looked in a dire situation. Leaving his tree, Elamite teleported to Oldbie's body and resurrected him. Uprising killed Elamite, leaving Oldbie clinging to life, while Uprising had two players left, one of which was also bleeding out. Oldbie pulled a series of confident/suicidal maneuvers, managing to kill the bleeding elf, which in turn left Uprising's troll bleeding out. Down to troll on troll, Oldbie outworked the opposition and scored a thrilling win for Pure. The excitement abated, however, as Uprising won the next two rounds to take the game. |
