Surprises Abound in Gears Open Bracket

As the Gears Of War action heats up here at New Jersey's Meadowlands, the competition isn't getting any easier. Early tournament favorites Prophecy have been making quick work of some of Gears' finest and have briskly advanced. The big question looming over the Gears of War main stage is whether they can maintain their commitment to excellence or if a virtually unknown Losers Bracket squad is lying in wait to smash their MLG Meadowlands dreams.

In addition to Prophecy's tour of ownage, (#28) ReTaliation was a team that few expected strong performances from, however minds quickly changed as they breezed through the first round and defeated (#37) Infinite Potential. Earning them a spot in the Winners Bracket 2, ReTaliation met defeat at the capable hands of (#5) The Darkest Hour, landing them in the Losers Bracket 2. Despite a lackluster performance versus The Darkest Hour, ReTaliation managed to pull together an amazing upset ousting (#6) FYC.

While at this point Prophecy certainly looks like the front-runner to make it to the Championship Bracket, other notables have been making a name for themselves. Proving they were a force to be reckoned with, relatively unknown FYC Impact bested two top teams, including 2 Beast before ultimately being sent to the Losers Bracket by (#24) Systematic Killing. Unfortunately, that's where this Meadowlands Cinderella story ends, as FYC Impact, entering the contest ranked 56th, was eliminated by (#25) Validation in the Losers Bracket 3.
