![]() MLG Columbus churned out its first truly epic match in the Winners Bracket Semifinals, where top-seeded Triggers Down met fourth-seeded Final Boss. The crowd was energized for both squads, but particularly for OGRE2, the hometown hero. Perhaps the battle of the tourney, Game 1 was a sprawling, magnificent affair of CTF on The Pit. On the back of Pistola's slaying, which included a running riot, Triggers Down took a 2-0 lead after an eight-minute war of attrition to start the game. Unfazed, Final Boss pushed back relentlessly, nabbing a capture with two minutes left to make it 2-1 and then, as time expired, tied the score at two caps apiece. Overtime began and went deep, as neither team made a serious push until mere minutes remained on the clock. Victory X managed a clever flag run, but looked to be in trouble facing a newly-developed Overshield for Triggers Down. No worries though, as OGRE2 stepped in and placed a plasma grenade on the dome to end the threat. Final Boss captured and won the game 3-2 for a 1-0 series lead. Game 2's Team Slayer match started well for FB, as they led 10-2, but Triggers Down dominated from there onward, winning 50-41. Final Boss recaptured the series lead during Oddball Guardian, where they controlled the map throughout the game. Up 2-1, Final Boss looked to take the series during CTF Narrows. However, they botched two crucial flag runs, while Triggers Down ran their scores to perfection. The result was 3-1 in the top seed's favor, sending the match to Game 5. Tied at 21 in Team Slayer Amplified, Triggers Down made sure Final Boss would have no comeback in the game, pushing to a decisive 50-41 outcome. With it they took the series 3-2 and moved to the Winners Bracket Finals. |
