![]() After a disappointing finish in the 2009 season opener in Meadowlands, Str8 Rippin prepared themselves for MLG Columbus with nothing less than a first place finish in mind - and that’s exactly what they accomplished. The 6-1 final score over their arch-rivals, Triggers Down, showed that they are they still more than capable of playing the type of Halo we saw in 2008. Three short games is all it took to send the Meadowlands champs packing, and Str8 is taking home yet another $20,000 as a result. In case you missed it, here’s a game-by-game breakdown of the action. Due to the fact that they met earlier in the Winners Bracket Finals, the series picked up where it left off in Game 5. The Pit Team Slayer was the game, and Str8 Rippin knew they had to make a statement early on if they wanted to stop Triggers Down from gaining the momentum they so desperately needed. Almost immediately Str8 put up a substantial lead, which in turn allowed them to move about the map more freely. Before long, they had TD trapped in their spawn - where they remained throughout the duration of Game 1. In the end, Str8 walked away with a 50-41 win on The Pit TS. Game 6 of the series would serve as the only objective gametype of the continuation, set on Onslaught CTF. These two teams have a deep rooted history in this particular gametype - where they produced some of the most exciting games we’ve ever witnessed. Str8 started off out-slaying TD, which eventually led to two flag captures. Once TD was able to get on their feet, they tallied up a few captures of their own until the score was locked up at 3-3. Unfortunately for TD, this would be the final series of captures in their favor. Str8 brought in two consecutive flags and gave themselves the 5-3 win in Game 6. In the final game of the series, Str8 Rippin made a statement that will likely stick with Triggers Down for months to come. Narrows Team Slayer was the game, and Str8 Rippin unleashed an assault that no team in this league would have been able to defend against. After obtaining total map control, Str8 sniped, flanked, and spawn trapped Triggers Down into oblivion as they ran away with the game. This complete and total destruction ended in a 50-29 Str8 Rippin win, and gave the franchise their fourth tournament win in Halo 3 history. With the win, they’ll take back the first seed from Triggers Down - and move into MLG Dallas with the type of momentum they’ve become accustomed to having.
Str8 Rippin played brilliant in the Finals in Columbus.
