![]() In its first two stops, the 2009 MLG Pro Circuit has seen an exciting influx of amateur teams bursting onto the scene in a big way. Pistol and the Jets showed up in Columbus with nothing but a host of veteran experience, a remarkably catchy name, and wealth of support they didn’t expect. Their 11th place finish made them the very best amateur team at the tournament, and has secured them a Top 16 seed heading into Dallas. With that said, we just had to catch up with the one and only - Pistol and the Jets. MLG: You guys were the best amateur team to show up in Columbus. How did it feel to perform that well? Pistol: It felt good, but we all wanted more. Mimic: It felt so unreal because we practiced so little; yet on LAN, we clicked like we had been playing together forever. IceVayne: It felt amazing. We knew we could be the best amateur team in Columbus, and definitely proved a lot of people wrong who said we were not going to place well due to the lack of practice. Arkanum: Well, to me it was special beyond words because I have never placed that high before. It was great to finally get teammates who knew how to play the game and who could work off of having eight games of practice before an event. It meant a lot but I still wanted and want more. MLG: So everyone wants to know: How did the name Pistol and the Jets come about? Arkanum: Pistol and the Vash story! Pistol: Alright, here’s the deal. In Halo 2 the team was going to be me, Ghostayame, Anarchy, and Vash. We were messing around about team names and Vash says "Pistol and the Jets." We all laughed and were kind of down for it. It wasn't for sure, but that was probably going to be it. We actually ended up dropping Vash and therefore not using the team name. When I brought it up to my team now, they laughed and were down. Everyone loves it.
Pistol and the Jets took Columbus by surprise with their Top 12 finish. They’ll now enjoy the comfort of a pro seed.
MLG: Everyone was chanting J-E-T-S all weekend long. How did it feel to have so many people backing you up? Mimic: Unlike anything I've been a part of at MLG. To have so many people rooting for the team was a big help. We had way more supporters than we figured. Hearing that chant on main stage fired me up. Arkanum: It was...not expected at first because I didn't know so many people expected a lot from us. It was great. IceVayne: It was something I myself have never experienced ever at an event for any team I have been on. It gave me an adrenaline rush that would show in my game and it really showed in the Guardian Ball game against North of 49. Pistol: Unreal. I have been a part of MLG for a long time and none of my teams have had support like that. After we won on main stage against Flatline, that’s all I heard and I loved it. MLG: How has the reaction from the community been since you've gotten back home? Mimic: I had at least 40 messages on Xbox Live alone. Not to mention my post Columbus blog got a lot of good feedback. People are loving us on the forums and we plan on giving them a show in Dallas. IceVayne: Definitely more attention with "Congrats on the 11th placing" messages and people talking to us in MLG Playlist about how it was amazing to watch us in Columbus Pistol: I signed on the Tuesday after and had messages from kids on my list and a lot from kids who I didn't. It felt like we finally had the respect of the community. Arkanum: Yeah, on the forums and online I always see or hear something about us, hyping us up and making us want to work harder. Even though the event passed like a week and a half ago, I still get people congratulating me and I’ll be in the playlist with a friend or one of my teammates and after the game we'll hear a brief "J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets" chant. I love it, and I want to thank everyone for showing the love. |
