The shock waves of Carbon's run through the Winners Bracket yesterday in Dallas continue to be felt today, as fourth-seeded Final Boss will now finish outside the Top 4 thanks to a loss to the third seed, Instinct. Final Boss will face Classic for fifth place. Final Boss and Instinct parlayed their series into the best of the tournament, but the Main Stage crowd would not have been able to tell from Game 1. Instinct destroyed Final Boss 5-0 on Capture the Flag Onslaught. FB tied the series on the back of a tense Team Slayer affair on The Pit. Final Boss won Game 3, King of the Hill Construct, and led Guardian Oddball with time running out, but Instinct made a push and snatched the game. At 2-2, Team Slayer Narrows would give the series to one team. Instinct amassed a serious early lead, going up 24-12. Final Boss went on a major push in the midsection of the game, finally drawing to within mere points as the game neared 50 kills. Instinct was able to thwart the comeback, taking the series 3-2. Classic shocked the Feature Station crowd as they took Game 1 from the top seed, Str8 Rippin. Could Str8 possibly fall to two teams ranked sixth or lower? On the energy of a tenacious crowd, Str8 rallied for Game 2 and took the momentum to snatch the final two games as well. The 3-1 series win advanced the reigning champions to meet Instinct for a spot in the Top 3. Classic, meanwhile, move to face Final Boss for fifth place. The narrow loss to Instinct means Final Boss will finish below their seed. The new roster seemed to play well, only falling to two hot and talented teams. Little consolation, though, as Instinct and Str8 continue to play for the title, while Final Boss is left to do battle for 5th. |
