Doug Gives His MLG Anaheim Picks

As we count down the days until MLG Anaheim, we'll be bringing you predictions from some of MLG's up-and-coming amateur players. In our first edition, Doug gives us his thoughts on how the Top 8 will play out.
Doug thinks Triggers Down will become the first team to ever win back-to-back competitions in Halo 3 history.
2. Str8 Rippin - Placing them here is not anything against them; they are a great team. It's just that TD is that good when they are playing their best. Str8's biggest strength is their teamwork; nobody plays together the way they do. They seem to trust one another in every situation each and every game, and the fact that they live together can only help. They also have a lot of talented players; we all know the things Snipedown can do when he is hot, but Tsquared, Legit, and Elamite are not bad Halo players either. Everyone on this team has solid BRs and snipes, and they all help out in objective and support. They all know what it takes to win. 3. Carbon - The fan favorite in the league by far, and one of the most fun teams to watch in game. They play just how Instinct did when they first picked up Walshy. As much fun as it may be to watch, we still see those kind of teams in 2nd and 3rd all the time. They just can't seem to get by all the talent on Str8 and TD. They will give somebody a good match in the LB Finals but just not enough firepower for them to land a 1st place finish. Still, do not count them out. Naded is one of the better slayers in the league and the other three shoot everything that moves, so with all that in mind, they will not be a cake walk for any team. 4. Final Boss - Who would have thought just two seasons ago that Final Boss would be stuck with the 4th seed and this would be their roster. The thing that has worked against them, and will continue to work against them, is the fact they cannot beat a big aggressive team, just like all of the teams that outplace them here. They have a lot of talent, but until they move away from that passive, rigid style of Halo, I don't except them to make it back to the top. I do like the move of picking up Soviet; this is the first time they have really moved away from the traditional move where they pick up a player that was also near the top in Halo 2. Also, he brings a lot of upbeat fast paced Halo that will give them a better shot at getting another event win. 5. Classic - Classic made a good pickup of with Ghost, but I don't really know if another player of that style is what they need. I really don't feel as though this team has the firepower to compete with the higher seeded teams, nor the leadership. If they are going to place better, it is going to come down to Chig or Ghost having a really good tournament, better than their usual good tournaments (which for those guys is saying something). 6. Instinct - This team has the same problem as Classic (lack of leadership). I just see Classic trying in consolation while this team will be angry to be there. Neighbor just doesn't seem to be the same player he was last year on Str8; he doesn't seem to think that he needs to team shoot for his team to do well. I am calling him out right here right now: if he starts laying himself out there for teammates this prediction will get blown out of the water. They have the players in place, they just need him to step up the teamwork. I want to see Neighbor dying for a teammate at Anaheim so I can eat my words, because the other three players on the team will be doing that for certain. 7. Dynasty - The two pickups they made were probably the best pickups of any pro team going into this event. TiZoXiC has been a Top 8 player throughout all of Halo 3, and A Pure Gangster has been getting better and better every event. He has proven that he belongs up here. Both eNabLe and Destin have been rising all season long, and with big pickups made after Dallas, they should finally be able to lock down at Top 8 seed going into the National Championship. 8. Heaven and Earth - HAE had plenty of talent, so they went and added some Pro Circuit vets to the team. I see this move paying dividends in Anaheim. This has been one of the more hyped teams throughout the season, and this is the roster they will show that they are for real with. Sleeper Team: North of 49 - This is the first time this squad will get to start in the Championship Bracket, and I see them making a push to Top 8. That might be tough for them, but I would say a Top 12 finish is not out of the question. They have been working hard for a long time and it is about to start pay off. In just a few short days, we'll find out how accurate these predictions turn out to be. Don't miss out on all of the awesome coverage this weekend, live from Anaheim, in the fourth event of the 2009 MLG Pro Circuit. |
