![]() As we count down the days until MLG Anaheim, we'll be bringing you predictions from some of MLG's up-and-coming amateur players. In our second edition, Hunter of Versus gives us his Top 8 predictions.
Hunter (left) thinks TD will become the first team to ever win repeat Halo 3 Championships.
1. Triggers Down- After a first place finish in Dallas, it is very easy to just pick Triggers Down to win it again and again and just leave it at that. However, you would be missing the point. You take three of the most talented players on the circuit and mix them with an amazing leader that lets them go off and do their own thing and soon it becomes apparent that they are a match made in heaven. Heinz will shoot everything and do what he needs to do to win every game, Hysteria is, in my opinion, the most talented slayer in the game, and Pistola will continue to dominate match after match, coming up clutch time and time again. Simply put, TD is the best team in Halo 3. 2. Carbon- Shock and awe -- the only two words I could possibly come up with to describe the atmosphere in Dallas as Carbon tore through the championship bracket. We saw Naded go clutch time and time again as he played with a new intensity and understanding of the team aspect in Halo 3. I can honestly say they were devoted to practicing as much as they possibly could before Dallas but now, for Anaheim, they have taken that to a whole new level and were one of the few top teams that were able to get a good LAN in. All of this will factor in to how their tournament plays out and their rematch against Str8 will be one for the books. 3. Final Boss- The 3rd through 6th place teams are extremely hard to predict. It is basically a toss up as to who is on top of their game come Anaheim. However, I can easily see FB placing extremely well this tournament. I recently spoke with StrongSide about what Soviet does for the team and the answer is quite simple: flank. He constantly puts himself in positions behind the opposing team adding a whole new layer of aggressiveness and unpredictability to the team. Some upsets could be in order here. 4. Str8 Rippin- The “best team” in Halo 3 now once again has something to prove. I honestly do not see them beating TD, or even Carbon for that matter, but everyone knows that they are capable of doing so. It will be interesting to see what becomes of this team if they walk away from Anaheim with another disappointing finish. Only time will tell as the event is less than a week away. 5. Classic- This team has the raw talent to break into the Top 4. Chig has matured immensely as a player/teammate this season, and the addition of veteran experience in Ghost could only help propel them there. However, they have a difficult 2nd round match-up against Instinct which could put them in a tough situation to bounce back from. 6. Instinct- After a semi-impressive showing in Dallas, defeating their long time rival Str8 Rippin and landing themselves a 3rd place finish, one can only wonder why they would consider making a roster change. Yet they did so, dropping Ghost (who is now on Classic) and picking up FearItSelf. I don’t see them placing any better because of this. 7. Believe the Hype- Do you Believe the Hype? Well, to be honest, it seems that most of the hype has gone away. I think that fact will work in their favor. They have really been putting in the hours and devoting all of their free time to perfecting their teamwork and they could easily place better than this. 8. Heaven and Earth- This team really had a rough time in Dallas, and through a series of unfortunate events, were not able to place nearly as well as they would have hoped. Come Anaheim, all of this is going to change. They picked up Cpt. Anarchy, and from what I’ve seen recently they all have a new level of confidence in their abilities. KillerDrew is absolutely ridiculous when he goes off, and if he catches fire I don’t see much that could stand in their way. Sleeper Team: Active Rush- Coming into this event with one of the lowest Championship Bracket seeds, it could be very easy to overlook and count these guys out; this would be a mistake. Active Rush has everything they need to be a Top 8 contender: slaying power, teamwork, and the smarts for the job. |
