Str8 Tops Carbon in WBR2
By blandestk | Published: November 7, 2009 8:29pm EST

Str8 Rippin started their Winners Bracket Round 2 match with Carbon in spiteful fashion, looking to atone for their performance in Dallas. The second seed sped to a 4-0 lead on Capture the Flag Heretic. Carbon looked flabbergasted, but after the fourth score by Str8, the team rallied and took control of the map. Str8 had seized the top center, which seemed to confuse Carbon, but once the sixth seed processed the situation, they countered the tactic brilliantly. The crowd roared as Carbon added score after score. At 4-4, everyone in the audience sensed a massive comeback and Carbon did not disappoint. They took Game 1 5-4 and held a 1-0 series lead.

What could have been a demoralizing loss turned into a an easy win for Str8 in Game 2, Construct Team Slayer. Snipedown went nuts, netting a killing frenzy on his way to a 21-6 performance. Str8 amassed 40 assists as a team en-route to a 50-29 win. The series stood tied at one apiece.

Str8 then took a series lead in Game 3, Oddball Heretic, though it was a much closer affair than Game 2. The teams traded leads, but Str8 held control for the final 20 seconds of the match and took a narrow win at the buzzer. The favorites were one win from a series victory.

Str8 managed the first capture during CTF The Pit, though the action was even. Carbon then pushed a flag towards the scoring area, but Walshy could not quite make the distance, as he fell just before a score. Unfortunately for Carbon, the rest of the team died trying to fend off the desperate Str8 players. Str8 not only managed to negate the scoring run, but they pushed a counter-capture afterward and extended their lead to two. From there, Carbon seemed deflated and Str8 finished off a fairly easy third capture to win the game 3-0. With that tally they also took the series and moved to the Winners Bracket Semifinals. Carbon must put in tough work through the Losers Bracket.
