![]() It was at this point that the fans received the greatest gift two teams could give. Over the course of the next two hours, Str8 Rippin and Triggers Down would do battle in two consecutive best-of-five series, with each series coming down to the fifth and final game. After TD pulled off the win in the first series, the crowd could begin to feel the energy radiating from the Main Stage. The next series was back and forth, and heading into the fifth and final game, the teams were tied 2-2. This was it; the pinnacle of the entire event. 200 teams had fought to reach this point, yet only two remained. It would all come down to one amazing game of Team Slayer to crown the MLG Dallas Halo 3 Champion. With the pressure level at an all-time high, you could hardly tell based on the plays both teams made throughout the game. True veterans, each team looked as if they had been in this situation before. While Triggers Down opened up an early lead, you could sense that Str8 Rippin would roar back at any moment. Although he lay dormant for much of the tournament, Snipedown seemed to be awakened by the screams and cheers of the crowd. Late in the game, Snipedown grabbed the weapon he’s most known for possessing, and then proceeded to amaze the crowd with headshot after headshot. One fan mentioned that it was as if he was “pointing and clicking.” After a couple of crushing snipes, Karma made a push into Str8’s base, putting him just a few feet away from Snipedown’s barrel. At this point, it was as if everything slowed down. As Karma flew around the corner, Snipedown spotted him out of the corner of his eye. Now standing face to face, the entire crowd laid witness to one of the most clutch plays in Halo 3 history. With the game on the line, and the control of the snipe hanging in the balance, Snipedown fired one single un-scoped bullet into Karma’s forehead. The crowd erupted. A roaring scream rang throughout the fan-filled venue. A clutch kill by Tsquared on the Triggers Down side of the map tied up the score, 46-46. A sudden panic swept over both teams as they realized that the Overshield was about to spawn. Anyone that was alive on both teams made a frenzied rush to the Overshield spawn. A couple of well thrown grenades by Triggers Down and a few shots allowed them to take out three members of Str8 Rippin, as well as burn the Overshield. As the only member of Str8 alive, Legit had no choice but to retreat into his base and hope for a miracle. This miracle never came though, as a flurry of bullets from Triggers Down connected on a helpless Str8 player. Triggers Down had won one of the most epic games in Halo 3 history. Whether you were a Str8 fan, a Triggers Down fan, or a fan in general, this was a game that everyone could appreciate.
Triggers Down celebrates their second win of the season.
Str8 Rippin has already come out and declared their level of dedication for Vegas. The loss hit them hard, and you can be sure it will be in their thoughts over the coming month of practice. The Top 8 teams for Vegas are set; no teams will be allowed to make a roster change. Every team will be looking to do something in the next month to make them better than Triggers Down, whether it be an extra LAN, a new strategy, or just putting in more hours of practice. The end of the season approaches, and with the prize money exponentially larger, who will have what it takes to become the 2008 National Champions? |
