![]() Triggers Down and Final Boss met for the second time at MLG Columbus 2009 in the Losers Bracket Finals. Heading into the match, Triggers Down held a 3-2 advantage thanks to their earlier series. The first game was crucial, as either Final Boss would tie things up or Triggers Down would take a commanding 4-2 lead. There was no doubt about the better team once Game 6 started, however, as Triggers Down powered to a 5-1 win on CTF Onslaught. Pistola was huge in the game, going 20-9. Final Boss would need to win four of six games, a daunting task, indeed, but they started to dig their way out of the deficit in Game 7. Perhaps the closest game of the tourney, as Team Slayer Guardian ended 50-49 in Final Boss' favor. Up 49-48 Mackeo charged kamikaze style and almost managed to merely tie the game instead of winning it. A grenade he threw as he died, though, saved the day and Final Boss pulled to within 4-3. The fourth seed had another chance to even the series, but they blew a late lead in Game 8's King of the Hill Construct. Final Boss held a 20-second lead into the closing minutes, but displayed rather poor management of hill situations in the late game. Triggers Down sat in the bottom hill uncontested several times, despite possible resistance from living Final Boss players. In the end, Triggers Down took a 250-219 win, moving to within one game of the Finals. That Victory X was 36-16 in the loss sums up the tactics of Final Boss well. For Final Boss it was now win or take third. Oddball Lockdown provided them a chance to stay alive and they took it when they needed. The game ebbed and flowed in both directions several times and fairly late it appeared Final Boss might lack the motivation to stay alive. They found the mettle they needed, however, and used excellent teamwork - in stark contrast to the previous game - to grab crucial seconds and, more importantly, to limit time for Triggers Down. Final Boss took the game by a small margin, but it was enough to bring them to within 5-4 in the series. Team Slayer on Narrows saw Triggers Down open up an early 10-kill advantage. Final Boss clawed to within three kills, but they simply ran out of time and deaths to give. Heinz was huge in the game, going 16-10. He and good communication from the team gave Triggers Down a 50-42 win. That victory granted them the series and allowed them to advance to the Finals, where they will face a rematch with Str8 Rippin. |
