Behind the Match-Up: Dallas Part 1

Str8 Rippin unleashed a relentless shock-and-awe campaign on the competition at MLG Columbus, which resulted in a domineering total victory that eerily resembled many of their performances throughout the 2008 Pro Circuit. Due to circumstances that were partially out of their control, their performance at the 2009 Season opener in Meadowlands was a poor example of this team’s capabilities. The results of Meadowlands undoubtedly left a bad taste in Tsquared’s mouth, and just when many fans had counted them out, Str8 Rippin lashed out with a vengeance that left little doubt as to why they’ve been considered the best Halo 3 team in the world for so long.
After regaining their title as the team to beat in Columbus, Str8 Rippin will make their triumphant return in MLG Dallas as the reigning champions once again.
Str8 Rippin’s potential route through the bracket is one that will likely lead them into the event with a head full of confidence. If they are able to break into Winners Bracket Round 2 unscathed, they’re expected to take on (5) Believe the Hype, who are heading into Dallas fresh off of a bittersweet 6th place finish. From there, they’ll likely be paired up with either (4) Final Boss or (8) Carbon to secure a Top 3 finish and a trip to the Winners Bracket Finals. Pistol and the Jets are heading into MLG Dallas as a pro team for the very first time. After waltzing through the Open Bracket in Columbus, they served as a Cinderella story of sorts while making their treacherous journey through the Championship Bracket. In the presence of the world’s best Halo 3 teams, Pistol and the Jets worked their way through countless match-ups to eventually land themselves an 11th place finish. The finish was the best of any amateur team, and was good enough to earn themselves a coveted spot amongst Halo 3’s pro teams. It’s no stretch to say that Pistol and the Jets will have their work cut out for them in Dallas. If they want to improve upon their performance in Columbus, they’ll need to work through a level of competition they’ve never been faced with in previous outings. If they want to steer clear of the Losers Bracket, they’ll be forced to get through powerhouses such as (1) Str8 Rippin, (5) Believe the Hype, (8) Carbon, and (4) Final Boss. Although this will be no easy task, anything is possible with the never-give-up type of attitude that has brought their team to where they are today. Now it’s time to break down this match-up on a game-by-game level, which will include all five of the scheduled Winners Bracket Round 1 gametypes. |
