| In response to the confusion that has arisen from the Team/Player Naming Rules, MLG would like to take a moment to clarify a few things that will help to dispel the misconceptions that may be floating around in the community. First and foremost, MLG recognizes that sponsorships are very important to both amateur and professional teams, and we will make our best efforts to accommodate player/team sponsors whenever possible. These rules are not at all intended to reduce the value of a team or player to a potential sponsor. In fact, you should find that this has a very minimal effect on any player or team’s ability to get a sponsor and offer them value and exposure for their money. Please re-read through the Player and Team Naming Rules. We have made clarifications below, which are in bold text. -------------- MLG has instituted new rules concerning team and player names, effective immediately. These rules apply to both the 2007 Pro Circuit and all Online Tournament activities. Please read through and familiarize yourself with the rules below, as there will be no exceptions to them. Team Names 1. No web addresses 2. No use of the league name or it's abbreviation (MLG) 3. No use of the word "Team" 4. No use of the words "Gamer" or "Gaming" 5. No Derogatory or Suggestive Words/Meanings 6. No corporations, company, sponsor, or product names may be used as a part of your team name. Player Names 1. No web addresses 2. No use of the league name or it's abbreviation (MLG) 3. No team name abbreviations 4. No Derogatory or Suggestive Words/Meanings 5. No corporations, company, sponsor, or product names may be used as a part of your player name Important Notes - Players may represent clans at MLG events. However, MLG reserves the right to deny any team/player name that conflicts with MLG content production or sponsor obligations. - Players are still encouraged to reach out to potential sponsors. Although these sponsors can't be represented through the team's name, players may wear sponsor T-shirts and/or other apparel. MLG Reserves the right to require players to remove sponsor apparel/logos when they are appearing on camera for content and programming produced by/for MLG. - If/when MLG provides player uniforms, sponsors may have a patch on the uniform sleeve. -Teams from the same Clan can use the Clan abbreviation in their team name. However, these teams must be differentiated by more than a single letter or number. - These naming rules apply to your MLG login name, which must be used as your in-game name in all MLG live competitions. These rules DO NOT apply to your Xbox Live Gamertag. |
