Understanding the Spawn System

“I should’ve known he was going to be there…”. An experienced Halo player comes to anticipate where his opponents respawn. While intimate knowledge of the spawn system comes with experience, there are several things you can do to accelerate the learning process:

Know the starting spawns on each map; this will allow you to develop strategies from the start of every game.

* Know that initial spawns are set. Each map has two initial spawns, one for each team. This fact never changes.

* You can block spawns. If you stand on a respawn point, you can force opponents to spawn away from you. Of course, this practice isn’t fool proof, so you should be aware at all times…

* Be wary with the sniper rifle. In Halo 3 if you have a long-range weapon, your opponents are more likely to spawn close to, and even behind, where you stand. A strong team will prevent these spawns or always check them.

* Map control = spawn control. If you’re truly controlling a map, you’ll know where an enemy comes back to life very quickly because your team will have sight of all the anticipated respawn points.

Understanding the respawn system is a gradual learning process but you can help yourself! Try to remember where you see yourself and enemies coming back to life in different situations. As time goes on, you’ll learn to anticipate the enemy's location based on your experience. The more conscious you are of the spawn system, the faster you will master it.
