The Championship Bracket Finals match-up was set, and fans eagerly crowded into the stands, separating themselves almost subconsciously, choosing to sit on the side of the team they favored. As the stands were immediately filled, the fans who could not find a seat quickly enough crowded onto the floor in the venue, destined to watch the match on one of several plasma monitors that had been set up to accommodate them. As Faruq introduced the competitors, the main stage crowd erupted in celebration. These cheers seemingly brought the competitors to a new level of play, propelling them up and beyond anything we have seen thus far in Halo 3 competition. The Finals featured amazing play after amazing play, and the fans certainly let everyone know when one of them happened. The “OOOOOHHHHH’s” could be heard ringing across the venue, as spectators cheered for each ridiculous display of skill they were presented with; chanting players names in sync with one another, almost as if they had met up before the event and practiced the cheers. There even seemed to be a rivalry within the fans themselves, as they fought to be louder than the supporters of the opponent.
Triggers Down celebrates their first ever circuit win.
After Str8 pulled out the win in an epic five game series, the teams had to play another to determine the Champion. Because Str8 Rippin came from the Losers Bracket, they were required to defeat Triggers Down in a second best-of-five series. While TD could have easily sulked after the loss and let Str8’s momentum carry them to a win, they refused to hand Str8 Rippin their second consecutive Championship. They came out in the second best-of-five series on an absolute tear, putting together possibly the greatest first minute of a CTF game in Halo 3’s history. Capping three flags in just over one minute to start the Onslaught CTF game, Triggers Down was determined to win their first ever Championship. They continued to excel in the series, winning the first two games, and setting themselves up for a Guardian Oddball match for the Championship. As the time ticked down in the third and final game of the series, Triggers Down and their fan base rejoiced as it became mathematically impossible for Str8 to come back. Triggers Down became only the fourth different team to win an MLG Event in the past three years. |
