Although Str8 Rippin didn’t manage to defeat Triggers Down in the Finals, the weekend could have been much worse for the team. After dominating the competition in San Diego the month before, a confident Str8 Rippin came into the event looking to continue their reign as Champions. They met up with Ambush in Winners Bracket Round 3, a team that had been put together only a few weeks before. As the series went to surprisingly the fourth, and then fifth game, a huge crowd began to gather around the station. Str8 opened up a substantial lead throughout the game, and it seemed almost certain that they would avoid being upset. With a 47-34 lead, many fans seemed disappointed that the game had not been closer. It was at this point that Ambush began to slowly chip away at the lead. As the score became closer and closer, an undeniable tension was permeating from the audience. Was Ambush really capable of a 13 point comeback? As they tied the score at 47 kills a piece, word quickly spread across the venue. While fans started to scream and cheer, spectators from across the venue sprinted towards the station, hoping to find out what was going on. The now mammoth crowd was jumping up and down, trying to catch a glimpse of the game over those that stood in front of them. People even stood on chairs, trying to get a better view of the game taking place just a few feet away. The deafening noise made it impossible for the teams to communicate, resulting in a chaotic ending to the game. Players scattered every which way, trying to be the hero, while avoiding being the final death. As the final score came up on the screen, Ambush rejoiced, as they had pulled off a truly amazing comeback, ending the game with a final score of 50-48 after trailing by such a wide margin. For the third event in a row, the ninth seeded team had upset the first seed in Winners Bracket Round 3. Ambush went on to their best placing of the season, finishing in fourth place.
Ambush pulled off one of the greatest comebacks to date.
Finding themselves in the bottom half of the Top 8 for the second event in a row was Final Boss. After winning the first ever MLG Halo 3 Pro Circuit Live Competition at the Meadowlands, Final Boss has placed outside of the Top 4 for two consecutive events. While most teams would be satisfied with a fifth place finish, Final Boss is certainly not one of those teams. |
