Providing what was likely the second largest upset of the event, Chilled Reality managed to defeat Carbon in the second round of the Championship Bracket. Fueled by CallMeGod’s energetic demeanor, Chilled Reality bested Carbon in four games, knocking them into the Losers Bracket much earlier than they had expected. Chilled Reality went on to be knocked out by Ambush in their battle for Top 4, and then fell to Final Boss in a consolation match for fifth place. Although they failed to crack the Top 4, this was a very successful tournament for Chilled Reality. After being upset by Chilled Reality, Carbon fought their way into the Top 8 through the Losers Bracket. Unfortunately for them, they were paired up against eventual second place finisher, Str8 Rippin, in a battle for Top 6. Both teams commented that while they expected to meet up at this event, they thought it would have been much later in the Winners Bracket, rather than fighting for their tournament lives in the Losers Bracket. Carbon ended the tournament in seventh place. They were likely disappointed after only placing two spots ahead of Gandhi, who was let go by Carbon before the event. Rounding out the Top 8 for the third event in a row was Fatal Images. After being forced to pick up two relatively unknown new players the week of the tournament, Fatal Images still surprisingly managed to place within the Top 8.
The enthusiasm showed by the main stage crowd was at an all-time high.
Second place Meadowlands finisher Classic continued to fall in the standings this event, finishing outside the Top 8 for the first time this season. Believe The Hype also had a poor event, finishing in 10th place. Both teams will look to get back into the Top 8 at Toronto. Orlando was the largest tournament in MLG history and presented us with some of the best Halo 3 action we’ve ever seen. As play continues to evolve, we’re in store for even better action in future Events. Strategies are beginning to become more established, fans are more into the action, and the top Halo 3 teams are beginning to emerge as they find their niche in the standings. MLG Toronto is just around the corner, and you can bet the teams will be ready for the first MLG Pro Circuit Competition outside of the US. |
