MLG Dallas Halo 3 Preview

| With the regular season of the 2008 MLG Pro Circuit now officially in the books, the competitors of MLG Dallas must enter the event with a new mindset. For amateurs, that mindset involves the fact that only one team will advance into the coveted Championship Bracket on Sunday. For the pros, it’s how they’ll be forced to compete against their toughest competitors starting from the very first round. If there’s one aspect of consistency we’ve seen at every single event in 2008, it has been the continual rise in the level of competition from the previous event. The strategies and setups we saw employed at 2008’s kick-off event in the Meadowlands have become all but obsolete at this point. This fact can be attributed to the players that have discovered how to take advantage of the many differences between Halo 2 and Halo 3. No longer are players looking to apply their Halo 2 knowledge to H3, but rather develop new and innovative strategies in order to best their opponents.

As we previously mentioned, the tournament format for MLG Dallas is drastically different than that of which we’ve seen all season long. Instead of a 32-team Championship Bracket, a reduced eight-team bracket will be in effect. This translates into a daunting task for the many Open Bracket teams, as they’ll be forced to battle against their fellow semi-pros and amateurs for a single spot amongst the world’s best. However, the difficulty of advancing will be well rewarded for whichever team is able to clinch that final spot in the Championship Bracket. Not only will they walk away with a substantial amount of money and bragging rights, but also an invite to the National Championships where they’re guaranteed a shot at six-figure prize money. Now that the stage has been set, let’s delve even deeper into the pro and amateur teams that are expected to rewrite the history books at MLG Dallas. As with every event preview, we’ll assume no major upsets occur during the course of the Championship Bracket. This will allow us to describe the tournament landscape on a much deeper level, and give you a clearer picture of what everyone is up against this weekend. |
