![]() And so it begins. After five months of anticipation, Major League Gaming will rumble back into the Meadowlands Expo Center this weekend for the start of the 2009 MLG Pro Circuit. The teams are ready, the bracket has been set, and there's nothing that can stop Halo 3's second season from kicking off with one massive frag-induced bang. The 2008 Pro Circuit served as Halo 3's very first professional season, and was arguably the single most exciting season to be a fan in MLG's vast history. Just when you thought there couldn't possibly be any more team changes, rivalries, or buzz worthy events, the off-season came along and smacked you in the face with more ups and downs than a Coney Island rollercoaster.
As the defending National Champions, Str8 Rippin is undoubtedly the team to beat heading into Meadowlands.
The way in which things have played out during the off-season have turned out to be the perfect prequel to what will be an even bigger and better season in 2009. The storyline has been set, the main characters have been established, and a fresh chapter in Halo history is about to begin. Who will step up and become 2009's hero? What can we expect to see from the reigning champs? Will there be a breakout team that takes the league by storm? But enough with the quizzical rhetoric; let's get down to the facts. The changes that were made to the Pro Circuit format for 2009 have had far-reaching effects across the pro and amateur ranks. For one, the introduction of Rolling Rank Points can probably be held accountable for the formation of many of the top teams. On top of that, bracket randomization has given us some of the most interesting matches we've seen in ages. This is 2009, and the wait is finally over. Now let's dig in even deeper. Let's take a trip into the unknown as we look at what the top teams will be up against once the first shots of 2009 are fired. |
