![]() For those of you who tuned into the second stop along the 2009 MLG Pro Circuit in Columbus, Ohio this past weekend, you were treated to an experience that is comparable to nothing in the realm of professional gaming. Swarms of competitors and fans alike swept through the halls of the Greater Columbus Convention Center looking to be a part of Pro Circuit history as MLG made its long-awaited debut in the state of Ohio. The event itself had larger-than-life expectations to fill, yet somehow Columbus managed to be everything we hoped it would be - and so much more. MLG Meadowlands was a great way to kick off the 2009 Pro Circuit, but it left us with too many unanswered questions for us to draw a legitimate conclusion as to how this season could turn out. Fans were left yearning for more, and they were forced to wait nearly two months in order to gain closure. This is where Columbus came in, and its profound results have provided us with a much better perspective of the atmosphere amongst the pro ranks.
The stories and events that played out at MLG Columbus won’t soon be forgotten.
It seemed as though Meadowlands was a wake-up call to many. Hard-work and dedication proved to be more imperative than ever, and the teams who failed to live by these two essential elements of pro gaming were slapped with the consequences almost immediately. MLG Columbus served as a second chance for these teams, and we saw drastic improvements in their performance and outlook on the season as a result. Str8 Rippin proved to be the perfect example of this fact. Their 4th Place showing in Meadowlands was not acceptable by anyone's standards, and it would take nothing less than a $20,000 performance in Columbus to redeem themselves as the Str8 Rippin we saw all throughout 2008. Not only were they able to accomplish that task, but they did it in overwhelmingly decisive fashion. The competition was forced to contend with an angry, attuned, and resilient Str8 Rippin, and the results were exactly what you’d expect from a National Championship-caliber squad. |
