Body or Headshot? Aiming for the body is almost as beneficial as getting the headshot. For example, when your team is trying to get control of Top Center on Narrows and you're sniping in your Attic, it is very important to hit your opponent and the body shot is much more likely. Going for the No-Scope When I go for the no-scope, I really have to feel it. I never really think about it when the time comes, but when i do see the situation arise, I just let my instincts take over and go for it. The reason why I think this works is because right when I'm in one of those "no scope situations," I feel I am extremely confident and thinking only about taking the other guy's face. Passive or Aggressive? Being passive in Halo 3 really only works if your team doesn't have control. If they do, the majority of the time you want to be pushing up with your team. An example of when I feel it is fine to not push up when your team has control would be on Guardian if your team is at blue and yellow and you're at snipe. This I feel is when you don't really need to push over because if your team is at blue and yellow, they're most likely spawning at tree. Halo 3 is very situational, but positioning yourself around the map to benefit your teammates the most is key. You always want to be in position to either finish a guy your teammates get weak, or to hit a couple of guys so your team can finish them. Narrows Tips Capture The Flag I really don't have a favorite spot in which I snipe from for narrows CTF, but there are a couple general places I like to go, depending on what my team is doing. If my team hasn't obtained Top Middle control yet, then I like to snipe in the Attic. I prefer doing this because you can see so much more of their side of the map and you can also see if anyone is coming up your L1 or R1 ramp. Another spot I like to snipe is at Left and Right Pocket, depending on where their team is spawning. If you have a good sniper on your team and he gets in the zone he can really take over the game by constantly getting body shots or head shots on the opponents. One other mistake I've noticed at both the Amateur and Pro levels is when a teammate is in a BR fight and you continue to try and snipe the guy. Simply take out your BR and help finish the guy off, instead of risking missing the sniper shot. There's nothing that sucks more than letting your teammate die because of a little but common mistake! Team Slayer Narrows TS is about the exact same as Narrows CTF. If you are your team's sniper for Narrows, then a lot is riding on you. You have to make smart decisions on how you move around the map and you also have to be extremely consistent with your shot. If you've missed a few shots here and there don't ever get down on yourself; always, always, stay confident and you will succeed on taking brains. The Pit Tips Capture The Flag My favorite place to snipe at on Pit CTF is anywhere at their base. I love catching people off spawns either when they're spawning Snipe 1 and I'm at their Needle Pit, or when they spawn in the Mauler and I'm on top of their Turret. I enjoy doing this so much because after you get those couple of kills you know that when they spawn again they are going to be gunning for you which is when outsmarting your opponents by your movement around the map and your sniping skills really shine. When you're playing defense at your base waiting to make a push, make sure you always communicate what you are watching. For example: if there are two of my teammates at our Green Box and one our Long Hall then I would say I have the Training watched. As easy as that sounds, it is so important to say those little things because in Halo 3, the maps are so big that any little information will benefit your teammates and help you all be on the same page. Team Slayer For Pit TS, right off the start my goal is to try and out snipe their sniper if they have a guy going for it, or if they have a guy going for the Custom power up I try to take him out. When I'm playing against other top teams, little sniper battles often occur which can get very intense, but staying relaxed and focused has been my key to success, which attributes to everything I do in Halo 3. One move I love to do if its a stand-off is if I'm Top Turret with our sniper, a couple guys our Green and lets say one our training, and the other team basically is doing the same thing, Instead of trying to out snipe the guy across the turret, which against a top sniper like Hysteria or Snipedown I would pretty much say it would be a 50-50 chance depending on who's hot, I would actually leave our Top Turret and go our Runway to flank their Courtyard. If this flank does work then you can successfully back smack their sniper and then start taking brains. If it dosen't work and they catch you, first pray that you're going to be able to hit the guy Top Turret that jumps down for you, but secondly, if you're able to live long enough it makes a very good distraction for your team to push through. Guardian Tips Oddball Being able to control Snipe Tower with snipe is a huge advantage for your team. I feel it is better to control Snipe Tower in this game type more than Blue and Yellow. The reasoning behind this is because getting to the ball is much more accessible, especially when you have guys at Green (which you want to have). My favorite situation though is when our team has ball at Blue and Yellow setup and we kill their team and I'm at Snipe Tower. I like this situation because 90 percent of the time they are going to spawn at green, which gives you the dominating position over them. If you're playing a top team, they usually will push to snipe first. This is where good sneaky fun decision making comes into play, whether it be jumping off Snipe 3 and going Snipe 2 around them or waiting for them Snipe 3 zoomed in waiting for the face to enter your yummy red reticule. If your team has ball at Green and you have snipe control and the other team is making a push top center, put away the snipe and make sure you finish them with your BR, even if you know you can hit the shot. It's much more beneficial to team BR the guy and then save the snipe ammo for when they are Top Yellow or Blue! Team Slayer Sniping well on Guardian is very key. Mainly because this gametype is more standoffish, so as long as you're able to get those couple kills from people popping their heads out it will go a long way. If we have Snipe and Green set up I actually don't really have a set place on where to snipe. I move all around from Snipe 3 to Snipe 2 , to Elbow and Bottom Tree. Since it is more of a standoff gametype, using my teammates call-outs determines where I'm going to snipe at. If, lets say, Roy is Bottom Tree and he says "there's a guy Front Blue that keeps poking out," I'll rotate to bottom tree and try to take him out. The same thing goes for having Blue and Yellow set up; there's no real set spot, I just rotate around to whatever call out is poking at the most :) Construct Tips King of the Hill On Construct Hill I love sniping all over the place on this map. You can really find me anywhere, but the only reason why I am able to do this effectively is because I am always aware of how many of my teammates are alive. If two of my teammates die and I'm sniping on bottom Gold to the bottom hill, I'm going to lift up right away to try and give them a top spawn. Sniping is important in this game type but how you spawn your team is much much more important. Team Slayer For Construct TS, having the snipe up top is very important, because again the team that usually wins the game is the team that has top control. My favorite scenario is when people lift up one of the purples and you're on that same street and then just jump up and snipe them. The main key to effectively using the snipe on Construct is to always listen to your teammates' call-outs and from there, positioning yourself where you will help your teammates and that will give you the easiest angles to snipe from. |
