MLG Anaheim World of Warcraft Rules and Settings
By Lies | Published: October 5, 2009 10:31pm EST

Equipment

  1. Players may bring their own mouse, keyboard, headphones, and mouse pad.
  2. All Players must submit their mouse, keyboard, and headphone driver requirements by 11:59 PM ET on Monday, August 24th. No drivers, that have not been previously submitted, will be installed at the Anaheim Competition.
  3. All Player equipment is subject to approval.
  4. Players may not use 3rd party Add-ons.
  5. Players may not change the Computer/Monitor sound and video settings.
  6. All User Interface setups will be confined to the Blizzard default options.
  7. All interface changes must be supervised by a WoW Referee or the WoW Tournament Director.

General Rules

  1. Deadly Gladiator Gear (PvP) and Tier 7.5 Gear (PvE) will be used throughout the Event.
  2. The latest official Patch version, available on the MLG Tournament Realm, will be used throughout the Event.
  3. Teams may consist of 3 or 4 Players.
  4. No Warm-Up Games may be played outside of scheduled Warm-Up periods.
  5. During scheduled Warm-Up periods the winners can stay, but the losers must get up.
  6. During scheduled Warm-Up periods, Teams still active in the Event have priority over open Stations.
  7. In the case of a Computer/Monitor malfunction, disconnects caused by fears or other reasons, or a Character falling below the Map, the Game will be restarted from the beginning unless one Team had 2 more living Characters than the opposing Team.
  8. Games started without the approval of a referee will be restarted.
  9. If a Team fails to report to their Station within 5 minutes of the announcement, they will Forfeit the 1st Game. 10 minutes after the announcement, a Team will Forfeit the 2nd Game. 15 minutes after the announcement, a Team will Forfeit their Best of 5 Game Match.
  10. Teams may be disqualified or forced to play a Game(s) shorthanded if a Player leaves their Station without their Referee’s permission, or is otherwise unable to play. Referees may set a time limit for a Player who has requested that they be allowed to leave their Station, however, Referees may also deny a Player’s request to leave their Station. Teams may be disqualified, or forced to play a Game(s) shorthanded, if a Player hasn’t returned by the end of the Referee’s set time limit.

Gameplay

  1. No leaving the normal boundaries of a Map.
  2. No leaving the cage before the start of a Game on Ring of Valor.
  3. No reentering the sewer pipe on Dalaran Sewers.
  4. No wall jumping.
  5. Players may not cast the Black Cat version of the Polymorph spell.
  6. Players may purchase Gear from any vendor within Dalaran, but may not leave Dalaran in order to obtain Gear.
  7. Players and Coaches may not look at an opposing Player’s TV or projected screen.
  8. Breaking any of Rules #1-7 will result in a Forfeit of the Game.
  9. Any sign of cheating may result in a Forfeit of the Game, disqualification from the Event, and ejection.
  10. Players must use their registered MLG Username during all Games. No Team Name abbreviations are allowed.
  11. Teams must submit their Roster of Players/Characters to the Referee prior to the start of Games 1, 3, and 5.
  12. Before Games 3 and 5, Teams will be given 5 minutes to change Players, Characters, Settings, and redistribute Talent Points.
  13. Arena 3v3 will be used for all Games.
  14. Each Game will have a 20 minute time limit.
  15. If both Teams have 3 living Characters at the time limit, the Game will end in a tie.
  16. If one Team has a 3-1 living Character advantage at the time limit, that Team will be awarded the Game victory.
  17. If the time limit is reached, at least one Character has died, and neither Team has a living Character advantage greater than 1, the Game will continue in a 5 minute overtime period.
  18. If, at the end of overtime, one Team has a 3-1 living Character advantage, that Team will be awarded the Game victory. All Games that reach the end of overtime without a 3-1 living Character advantage will end in a tie.
  19. Games that end in a tie must be replayed with a 10 minute time limit and the same Map, Players, Characters, Settings, and Talent Points. Players will only be able to change their Gear.
  20. Maps will be randomly selected, for each Game by Blizzard’s Matchmaking system.
  21. No Game Type may be played more than two times in a Best of 5 Game Match.
  22. If the random selection of the Map is causing a significant delay, the WoW Tournament Director may allow for a Map to be played more than the allowed number of times for a Best of 5 or Best of 11 Game Match. The WoW Tournament Director may also allow for a different Map to be played, if random selection is causing a significant delay, when a tied Game must be replayed.

Round Robin

  1. All Teams will play a 5 Game Match against each Team. All 5 Games must be played, even if a Team reaches 3 Game wins prior to the 5th Game.
  2. The schedule of Matches will be determined randomly.
  3. Match results will be recorded and the Top 4 Teams, determined by total Match wins, will advance to the Championship Bracket. Ties will be broken using the following criteria in this order: Head to Head Match record, Head to Head Games record, and total Games won.
  4. If a tie needs to be broken in order to determine Championship Bracket Seeds and it can’t be broken by the aforementioned tiebreakers, the tie will broken by a coin flip or a series of coin flips. If a tie needs to be broken in order to determine which Team(s) will advance to the Championship Bracket and it can’t be broken by the aforementioned tiebreakers, the tie will be broken by a series of single Games between the tied Teams. If a tie between Teams not advancing to the Championship Bracket can’t be broken by the aforementioned tiebreakers, it will remain a tie.

Championship Bracket

  1. The Championship Bracket is a Best of 5 Game Match, Double Elimination Bracket. Once one Team wins 3 Games, the Match is over.
  2. After losing a Match, Teams will fall into the Losers Bracket.
  3. A Match loss in the Losers Bracket will result in elimination from the Event.
  4. Teams will be seeded using total Match wins and ties will be broken using Head to Head record.
  5. No Game Type may be played more than four times in a Best of 11 Game Match.
  6. If Teams meet for a 2nd time in the Championship Bracket, their Match will expand to a Best of 11, include the previous Match, and pick up where that Match left off. For example, if Team A beat Team B 3 Games to 0 in the Winners Bracket, the Best of 11 will resume with Game 4 and Team A leading 3 Games to 0. Before Games 7, 9, and 11, Teams will be given 5 minutes to change Players, Characters, Settings, and redistribute Talent Points.
  7. If the Teams meeting in the Finals have not yet faced each other in the Championship Bracket and the Team coming from the Losers Bracket wins a Match, another Match must be played to break the tie since both Teams would only have one Match loss.
