MLG Prize Money
- March 29, 2007 - 11:38pm
Lately I've been hearing alot of people talk down about MLG not releasing the prize money yet and I think we should all just relax. I've been coming to these tournaments around 3 years or more and they keep increasing exponentially. If you just take a look at 05 regular events they only had 5,000 for 1st. Next year in 06 they had 12,000. 07 I wouldn't expect to be less than 20,000 with how much MLG has grown and gained in investments. You can even see a bigger difference in the Championship prize money. In 05 it was 20,000 and increased 5 TIMES in 06 to 100,000. Like I said before, MLG has gotten even bigger and we can expect to see alot of that return. So everyone just chillax and wait for the good news ;) I'm just as excited as the rest of you to hear it.

Nintendo Wii; fun loving game system? Or
mindless killing machine?
- January 23, 2007 - 11:42pm

About a week ago I bought this brand new 40" LCD 1080P TV (about $2,500) from Best Buy with the 4 year warranty which covers as the associate sarcastically said "Pretty much anything unless you lose at your video game and throw the controller at the screen"
To which I replied, "It's ok, I never lose"
Guess I was wrong. Late last night I was playing Halo 2 in the other room when my Girlfriend (maybe soon to be ex-girlfriend?) comes in teary eyed and scared and told me she made a big mistake. I had never seen her like this so I had no idea what to expect, I thought she had maybe ran over my cat, cheated on me, or killed one of my family members. But it was worse, way worse. I come into my room to find my TV like this:
She was playing bowling on the Wii (without the wriststrap) and I guess she thought the Wii was so advanced that you actually hit the tv to knock over the pins. All kidding aside it was a pretty funny experience even though I lost 2,500. I plan on getting a new TV by the end of the week and will post up the pics when it's done!
My gaming setup part 1
- January 23, 2007 - 12:12am
I've been getting alot of requests lately asking to see my whole gaming setup so.... I decided to show only part of it! I will be putting up more pictures next week of the whole setup but I'm too lazy right now to clean off my desk and other things. So as you can see, I have my new 40" Sony LCD 1080P (or i... whatever) tv, *compliments of Gilbert Arenas* two Playstation 3's (in case one breaks), a Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, a PSP somewhere hidden in there. One of the absolutely most important things I have if you look at the top shelf in my tv stand is my Tivo, I don't know where I would be without this. Being a gamer, I usually just play all day long and when it gets late at night all that's on is crap. If you have the extra money I'd really suggest getting one of these, you'll always have something good to watch no matter what time it is. Also, on the right you'll see I have a few Red Bulls in case I get thirsty :)
Tell me what else you want to see or know about in a comment and I'll try to respond to it next week in my part 2 blog along with more pictures!

Nice setup Dave. Gotta love it. Not 1 but 2 PS3's, compliments of Gil, and a 360. Quite emersive. Did Red Bull pay for the pic with the fridge, or is that just free publicity? I'm also curious whether or not the TV lags. I've been wanting to get one just not sure what kind to get. You also need to post more often, don't hear enough from you.

Zero to Hero

As you all know and have probably read in OGRE 2's blog, we are offically sponsored by the 4th leading scorer in the NBA Gilbert Arenas. I've met more than a few celebrities in my lifetime and I can't really compare Gilbert to anyone I've met before.
The thing that stands out the most is how he does what he wants without worrying about what other people think. Anybody that follows the NBA will know that Gilbert is looked at as a weird guy. Weather it's his pre freethrow ritual, his halftime shower with his jersey on, or the air thinning tents inside his house. He will do whatever feels right to improve his game. Take the air thinning tents in his house for example. He sleeps in a tent that has the oxygen equivalent of two miles above sea level. Basically he's training while he's sleeping.
The other thing that is absolutely amazing to me is how Gilbert handles his fans. I've hung out with him a few times outside of basketball games and the guy gets recognized on a hourly basis and I have yet to see him turn down an autograph. Someone who makes millions of dollars regardless of how he deals with people could easily just ignore and turn everyone down. But, he does the exact opposite. For example at the season opener game against the Cavs, Gilbert and the Wizards lost a heartbreaker by 2 points in which Gilbert had a rough game. Personally in Halo I know when I do bad and feel responsible for my team's loss I'm not in any mood to talk to people. But, Gilbert came out after the game and the first thing that happens is a kid comes up asking for an autograph, Gilbert could have easily turned it down with the mood he was in and how bad the day just went. But of course he puts on a smile signs the autograph and made some kid's day. This is something I'm going to remember for the rest of my life, that no matter how big MLG gets or how much money I end up making, if I can go out of my way just a little bit to makes someone's day, I will.

Dave I swear you are the coolest guy on the circuit. I'll never forget when I went to MLG Dallas 06' and I saw you in the pro players lounge and I said to my friends "guys i wonder if he will give me the time of day if i ask him when his montage comes out" and sure enough i mustered up the courage and asked you and we ended up having a conversation for about 10 minutes. You are a very nice, genuine, down to earth person and a good face for professional gaming. Good luck in the future!

Want a sweet Kiaeneto shirt?
- June 19, 2006 - 1:45am
As people know, every event I've been bringing Kiaeneto shirts to give out. The last event in Dallas I had about 200 and they went out fast so this time I decided to be difficult for no reason and make people do something for the shirts. Here is what you have to do in order to get one or more shirts in Anaheim.
Standard Kiaeneto shirts:
1. Come up to me sometime during the weekend and wish me Happy 22nd Birthday, if you get the age wrong, I will have you thrown out of the event.
2. YOU HAVE TO PUT THE SHIRT ON RIGHT THEN. If you don't put it on within 10 seconds, you will be banned from all MLG events (a perk of being a signed player is being able to kick out people randomly for no reason.
If you want to be cooler than everyone else, you'll want to get the other Kiaeneto shirt/shirts. There will be less than 70 of these given out the whole weekend so these will be a little harder to get.
One of the new Kiaeneto shirts:
1. You'll have to find Mikey, the other owner of Kiaeneto, on Saturday or Sunday. What does he look like? Look for the guy who has Kiaeneto tattoos. He has our company name on his right forearm and our main logo on his left forearm.
2. You have to go up to him and tell him how much Kiaeneto rules. More importantly you have to pronounce Kiaeneto (KUH-NET-O) correctly or you won't get a shirt.
See everyone in Anaheim and wish our team luck!

Montage and Kiaeneto....
- May 9, 2006 - 11:45pm
I'd like to explain to everyone why my montage isn't coming out as soon as everyone would like. As many of you have heard, I have a clothing line coming out this summer called Kiaeneto (pronounced KUH-NET-O) which I've been working on for quite some time now. The website is currently underway: http://www.kiaeneto.com
The people involved consists of myself (50% owner), another friend of mine who is also 50% owner, a full time artist who comes up with our amazing designs, and another buddy who does part time work for us when we are doing big runs of shirts. My friend and I have alredy put in over 20,000 in getting this thing going and hopes it will pay of in the long run. The clothing line is aimed at being "The Hurley of Video Gamers" as described at the bottom of this article: http://www.wzzm13.com/news/specials/online_article.aspx?storyid=51518
Which basically means, I'm trying to get a line of clothing out there that gamers can associate with AND it's cool designs that you can wear anywhere. Just because you're a gamer doesn't mean you have to wear a Nintendo shirt to the mall, this clothing line will be similar to Volcom and Hurley with cool shirts that people will have no idea is associated with gaming. Also the goal is for the designs to be unique so that people who aren't even gamers can wear the clothing, kind of how people who wear Volcom or Hurley don't neccessarily snowboard or skateboard. But, back to the main point. The reason I'm not releasing my montage yet is so that I can wait until Kiaeneto is totally finished and release both the website and video in the same day.

Hey Walshy, nice idea on the clothing line.
I would love to see your clothing line come in dri-fit type fabric, much like your 3D shirts that you guys always wore at tournaments.
cotton is going out of style IMO. I much prefer dri-fit type shirts, like Under Armour, Nike, etc.

Just like the big controllers, they don't make these anymore. Saiyan is looking to buy some brand new ones since he is on his last one. If anyone has connections to these controllers, reply in this blog.

WinterLANd BABY!!
- December 25, 2005 - 4:05pm
In less than a couple days one of the best H1 lan to date will be taking place. For 1 week all of 3D, Pac, Dirt, Nistic, Shibby, Strongside (he's only going to watch, I'll make sure of it), Puckett, Jownz, EDUB, and a bunch more OH locals will all be at the OGRES house in Ohio. If we get all our equipment working, we could have 3-4 of the TV's recorded so that we don't miss any sick footage. The plan as of now is to make a 3D H1 montage through the guy who does videos for our site.
Choices choices.....
- December 13, 2005 - 1:15am
Maybe some feedback will help, but, I have a couple options about releasing my montage. First, I could probably get it out before Christmas by recording the last few practices before Chicago and the montage will be pretty decent. Or..... I could release a small preview (minute long at the most) and also record while we practice for NY and have it out probably at the end of January. Personally, I feel like waiting is the best option so I can have a really good one and if I did that I'd plan on releasing a preview to fill in the gap.

my opinion is that a good montage maker will make a better montage than a pro halp player. please consider giving this to someone else to edit, shooK on3 seems to have a knack for editing. keep in mind that you can kinda "team up" on the editing so that its a collaboration as apposed to "your gameplay, his editing"
regardless, i'm looking forward to it!!!
