Hey everyone, I hope everyone has had a terrific off season! I know I’ve enjoyed the off season, but I personally can’t wait for meadowlands to come! I think it’s going to be some of the best competition the MLG community has ever seen but I’m not hear to talk about the upcoming event everyone knows it’s going to ROCK, but I am here to tell you guys about my 2008 season
Gandhi Gets Dropped
MLG kicked off the 2008 season at the Meadowlands. For the first time in my entire career I wasn’t completely thrilled/nervous to be attending the event. As soon as I arrived at JFK airport I began to text my friends to see what they were up to that night, and I was basically home sick. Being my senior year in high school I wanted to spend as much time with my friends as possible, and gaming was standing in the way of that. This instantly stuck in my head and I just couldn’t help but think to myself “Man I really want to this event to be over so I can get home to be with all my friends.” I tried to not express my feelings to my teammates Ghostayame, Shockwave, or Karma but I’m fairly positive they could tell I didn’t want to be there. Regardless of how I felt I knew I was here to compete against the best gamers in the world and I would have to bring my A game, which at the time was equivalent to my D game. Saturday night of the event ended and we just beat str8 rippin. I couldn’t help but think to myself I don’t even have to play to beat the top teams anymore, and I would keep this mentality for most of the season. Although we beat str8 we ended up losing out and facing str8 in the consolation for 5th and they beat us, leaving us at 6th place (our worst performance ever). The lose didn’t phase me surprisingly.
San Diego came and I couldn’t have made myself more unavailable to my teammates. In between Meadowlands and San Diego I played about 400 games total 50 of those games being scrims with my team. Now 50 games with my team sounds like a decent bit but there was a large amount of hostility amongst us, mainly between Shockwave and I. We would fight over certain issues for the wrong reasons. When we would discuss strategies I would expect everyone to follow them and attempt to enforce them as well as I could. Although Shockwave respected my view he couldn’t take me telling him that what he did was wrong, mainly because when ghost, karma, and him would be on playing I would be out with my friends. But some how we were able to pull it together and get a 4th place finish. After the event I got my bags packed relatively quickly said good bye to everyone and went to catch my plane to my Myrtle Beach.
As I arrived at Myrtle beach I was rushed to where me and all my friends were staying and instantly began having the time of my life. Pretty much the day after I arrived I received a phone call from shockwave. Wave basically said that it would be in the best interest for the team if I was kicked off for the reasons I stated above and others. But wave left it up to karma to decide whether or not I should remain on the team. It took me a second to really digest what had been said to me, one of my best friends (best friend through gaming) told me he wanted me off his team. After I fully understood everything that had been said to me, I punched the door and walked out of the beach house. I felt betrayed and out of anger I basically threw away a friendship. Sure enough the next day I got a call from karma and he told me he was sorry but he’s got to kick me off the team. I said I understood but in reality I would hold the biggest grudge against each and every one of them.
My feelings towards each of them would change however. I would be able to talk to Karma the exact same way as I had always been able to. Ghost however I could no longer see as a friend, but only as a competitor. I had to give him respect for his talent at the game, he was absolutely ridiculous and everyone would soon find out at Vegas 2008 just how good he really Is.
Shockwave is a completely different story then both of these two. Chris was the first real friend I made through video games,, and we would later become extremely good friends. Regardless of what tiny arguments we would get into over strategies or a play one of us made, we always were able to over look it. But when Chris told me that it would benefit the team if I was kicked off, I lost every ounce of respect I had for him. I won’t get into details but basically I smashed our friendship into pieces that night. This didn’t really phase me until Vegas 2008 came around. Watching Chris be called out to the main stage brought so many memories back, and I wanted to congratulate him for doing so well but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I immediately remembered that I ruined our friendship. Ever since I’ve tried to bring myself to talk to chris but I just can never do it.
What had happened was for the best. I’ve learned a lot from this situation, and I can honestly say I hold nothing against any of them anymore. Karma, Ghost, Shockwave nothing can replace the memories I had with you guys, and I hope the best for you.
