Strafing

![]() Strafing is movement from side-to-side in hopes of throwing off the enemy shot. To practice strafing, go into a custom game by yourself, take aim at a spot, and shoot at it while moving side-to-side. As this tactic becomes second nature, you can advance your strafing techniques by adding in crouches, jumps, and variations as to how slowly or quickly you make your strafe, as well as the time it takes you to switch from one direction to the other (a “quick” or a “long” strafe). * Strafing also makes aiming easier. By positioning the aiming reticle on your opponent's head and strafing in the direction they are moving you only have to worry about moving to the left and right, rather than trying to adjust your aim up or down. * Strafing while on a ramp makes it particularly hard for an enemy to hit you. The change in height makes it so a player has to constantly reposition their reticule. * Strafing with a sniper makes it easier to hit an opponent. Line up your reticle with the head and then strafe in the direction they are moving until it goes red. Pull the trigger for an easy head shot.
A strong strafe will employ ducks and jumps as well as unpredictable movement.
* Use walls to your advantage. Strafe behind walls, firing your shot but making the enemy miss. This move requires practice because as you go behind the wall, you lose sight of the enemy and have to perform minor adjustments every time you pop out. Similar to many things in Halo, this technique can only be mastered through repetition. Practice your strafe! It’s one of the fundamental elements of Halo combat and an absolute necessity as you move up the ranks. Mix up how you strafe, practice in Free-For-Alls and custom games, and learn from what you see other people doing. In time, you’ll be a much more difficult target to take down. |
