Holding Position in Team Slayer

![]() Many new players have a tendency to hold forward on the thumb stick and go, go, go! Please, resist this urge. Stop for a moment and consider where you spawn. If you have the rockets do not mistakenly go after four enemies at once. There are many advantageous positions on every map; learn to control these positions patiently. If an enemy knows you’re going to charge around the corner, he or she will simply smack you as soon as you do it. In general, anticipating the opponent’s next move will give you the first shot and a significant advantage. Many times, gaining the upper hand is as simple as placing yourself in an area and waiting for the enemy to come. If you can find a spot on the map where the enemy will run by from one or two positions, it’s easy to cover those spots. By anticipating and waiting patiently, you’ll slowly build a lead.
The sniper tower on The Pit offers many angles from which to snipe.
One of the easiest ways to prove the use of holding positions is to go into a matchmaking game and pick a few spots that you’re going to “hold” during the game. Perhaps one is top yellow on Guardian, maybe with a shotgun, and just sit there until you die. Have the discipline to stay despite the temptation of easy kills elsewhere on the map. You may be surprised to find yourself contributing towards a one-sided victory with a solid positive kill-to-death spread. |
