Stealing the Oddball - The Basics

 * When you kill the ball carrier, he drops the ball right on his corpse. The ball is "heavy" in Halo 3 and won’t stray far from its initial location, even when grenades are thrown at it. Make sure you have a clear path to the ball when you want to steal it. * When it is in the initial position, the ball is wide open, making anyone that goes for it an easy target. Don’t run into certain death; wait until the enemies are killed before making an attempt at it. Coordinate your teams effort to cover you while you scamper across the center of the map. * Take advantage of chargers. Bait the ball and then steal it once you kill the opponent. This move is an easy way to tally a lot of kills and ball time. 
Be aware of your surroundings when attempting a steal.
* Talk with your teammates to determine who will grab the ball once it’s down. If everyone on the other team is dead, but no one goes for the ball, sit down and talk with your team after the game about who will procure the ball in any given situation. It's important that the ball is picked up quickly upon being dropped, as every second could be the difference in a highly contested match. * Be sneaky. Sometimes it’s possible to run in, steal the ball right out from underneath the enemy's nose, and run away to the safety of your team's Battle Rifles. It’s risky business, but trying it out and succeeding can be one of the most gratifying Halo experiences. |
