Ground to Air Ratio

![]() Every attack is classified as either a ground or an air attack. At the end of each match you can review these statistics and evaluate how you were playing based on the ratio between the two categories. The information here can be invaluable knowledge for determining successful patterns in specific match ups and changing your own patterns on the fly between matches. Special (B-button) attacks will count toward the category depending on where they were performed. Pressing B with Pit while in the air will register as an air attack, while pressing it while standing on the ground will register as a ground attack. Most characters will typically have a balanced ratio that leans slightly in favor of air attacks over ground attacks. This tendency can be broken though in specific match ups. For example, in the ROB versus Snake match up, ROB will likely need to spend more time in the air than normal to move around Snake’s numerous projectiles. If you are playing a set against someone in a tournament and have just lost the first game, comparing the number of ground to air attacks you’ve performed may give an idea about what can be changed in the next match, especially if the numbers seem different from your normal trends. In some situations it may work to completely change your tendencies for the next match, making yourself hard to read and throwing off the opponent. If in the first match you favored ground attacks over air attacks by a 3 to 4 ratio, then in the second match try flipping that ratio around and focusing more on air attacks over ground attacks. |
