![]() Air dodging is one of the new key components for survival in Brawl. In Melee, because you could only air dodge once while in the air, its uses were limited. Things have changed now that you can air dodge repeatedly, making it much more useful. To air dodge you simply need to press the shield button (the L or R-trigger) while in the air. After the air dodge animation completes you will recover and will be capable of air dodging again if you haven’t already landed. During the air dodge animation you are completely invulnerable from any attack, though you also won’t be capable of attacking. Air dodging should be your primary defense when an opponent is attempting to attack you in the air. If that seems too obvious, that’s because it is. An opponent moving toward you in the air doesn’t mean you should immediately react, especially if that is the reaction they expect. In this scenario the approaching player can simply wait and punish the brief recovery time after the air dodge. Learning when to air dodge and what the opponent’s habits are is the key to avoiding hits successfully. Mixing things up, avoiding patterns, and learning the timings for incoming attacks is the key to protecting yourself. |
