The Ideal Recovery

![]() There are two methods for recovering hits at high percentages and increasing the duration of each life. For most characters method one will likely be your best option, but there are a few characters (with air attacks that lag a lot) in which method two may be a better option. Method One Step 1: After being hit, immediately begin spamming your characters quickest air attack so that it comes out as soon as hit-stun wears off Step 2: Once the air attack completes, press the jump button Why it works: Air attacks in Brawl slow down your momentum incredibly fast. In addition to this, after your momentum is slowed, simply jumping will almost always reverse your momentum completely and keep your character from dying. Method Two Step 1: After being hit, press the L or R-trigger to air dodge Step 2: When the air dodge is complete, jump Why it works: The ability to air dodge in Brawl has the odd property of canceling hit-stun. This means that if you are hit on one frame, you can actually air dodge on the very next frame. The downside to this though is that air dodging does not stop your momentum, meaning most of the success for this recovery procedure will depend on what you perform after you air dodge. For most characters this means jumping, but for others it could mean using a special attack or another move that reverses or stops momentum. |
