Arrow Canceling

![]() Arrow canceling, or as some like to call it "the quick draw," is one of the more difficult moves to perform in Brawl. It takes timing, practice, and possibly a change in control scheme to get down accurately. The technique refers to Toon Link cutting his arrow animation roughly in half upon landing. The timing for the technique is the press of the B-button just before landing. The reason some players change their control scheme is to short hop double arrow. To do this in a regular control scheme requires fast fingers in which the thumb shifts from the X or Y-buttons to the B button, which is then tapped twice. Instead, with a different control scheme, the jump button is mapped to one of the triggers which allows the thumb to rest on the B-button. That slight variation in timing (the amount of time it takes to move the thumb from the X or Y-button to the B-button) is often the barrier between success and failure when attempting this technique. Arrow canceling is not limited to just short hopped double arrows. You can short hop, pull out a bomb, and arrow cancel on landing. You can also short hop and perform an air attack followed by an arrow cancel. The applications for this are numerous, so make sure you mess around with different timings, set ups, and uses. |
