Bombs, Boomerangs, and Arrows!

![]() Toon Link has numerous projectiles that can be used effectively against opponents. The bomb and boomerang are of similar effectiveness, while arrows are somewhat more limited. All of Toon Link’s projectiles are easily spammed against the opponent and can rack up damage quickly, as well as break up potential attacks or approaches. Bombs (Down-B to pull out, C-stick a direction to throw): Bombs have a base damage of 5% and stun the opponent more than any other projectiles. They will punch through practically any incoming attack and will explode on contact with the opponent. They can damage Toon Link if he is to close to the opponent, so make sure to use bombs at medium range to avoid splash damage. If a bomb explodes on Toon Link while he is holding it then it will cause 3% damage to himself. Be careful, too, because bombs can be caught by the opponent and thrown back at Toon Link. The last noteworthy item regarding bombs is that you can Z-drop them on platforms. To do this, simply jump up toward a platform, and as Toon Link’s character model passes through the platform press the Z-button, which will lay the bomb down. Bombs will explode after 5 seconds if they have not made contact with the opponent. Boomerang (Forward-B + control stick directions): Toon Link’s boomerang does variable damage based on the distance at which it hits. If you hit the opponent from point blank range it will do 11% damage, if you hit them at its furthest range it will do 5% damage. Ranges between the two extremes will vary based on the distance. If the boomerang hits the opponent on the return it will do 3% damage. The boomerang has the most range of Toon Link’s projectiles and can be angled. To angle the trajectory of the boomerang tilt the control stick up or down after pressing Forward-B. The boomerang is great for interrupting an opponents approach and for intercepting opponents who are recovering to the stage. Arrows (Neutral-B, hold B to charge): Arrows are the weakest of Toon Link’s projectiles. They will deal 4% damage uncharged and 12% damage after a 2 second charge. The uncharged arrow will likely be used far more then the charged one because it can be fired fast and between attacks. Mixing in arrows with bombs and the boomerang is the best way to keep the opponent on their toes, so even though the attack is comparatively weaker then the boomerang, it is still a good idea to make use of the projectiles because it keeps the opponent guessing. Additionally, there is a technique known as arrow canceling (some call it the quick draw), that is discussed in another article in the Toon Link section. |
