Up first in this edition of the MLG Columbus Behind the Match-Up series is Final Boss vs. Apocalypse. Final Boss is traveling into Columbus with the same roster they had in Meadowlands. This time around, Ogre 2, FearItSelf, Mackeo, and Victory X will definitely be looking to capitalize on their overwhelming potential. Although their 5th place finish in Meadowlands was partly to be expected, many people are expecting bigger and better things out of Final Boss in Columbus - including MLG’s co-founder Sundance DiGiovanni, who expects them to take the Winners Bracket by storm.
FearItSelf put on an impressive show in Meadowlands, and will be looking to capitalize on Final Boss’ potential in Columbus.
All things considered, Final Boss had a great tournament in Meadowlands - things just didn’t pan out towards the end of the weekend. Was it fatigue? Was it a lack of practice? Was it chemistry? The truth is, we’ll probably never know. What’s important for Final Boss to keep in mind is that Meadowlands is in the past, and Ogre 2 will have a hometown advantage when Columbus rolls around. We would be disappointed if we saw anything less than an audience full of Ogre supporters, and you can expect Final Boss to feed off of that energy. And then there’s their Winners Bracket Round 1 opponent - Apocalypse. These guys can only be described as a Top 24 chop-suey comprised of bits and pieces of teams such as The Riot, Darkest Hour, and Antigravity. But with a new team composition, comes new chemistry. The only question is: will it be the type of chemistry they’re looking for? Will it be their saving grace or their fatal flaw? It’s all just speculation until we see them in action together. Now let’s jump into the game-by-game analysis portion of this Behind the Match-Up… |
