Behind the Match-Up: Anaheim Part 1

We'll begin, rightfully so, with the reigning champions on the MLG Halo 3 Pro Circuit, Triggers Down. TD will stroll into Anaheim with the top seed after overtaking the spot from Str8 Rippin following their decisive victory in Dallas. The win marked TD's second championship of the 2009 Season and set them up for a strong finish coming out of the season's midpoint event.
Triggers Down is back on top after bringing home first place in Dallas. Will Status Quo pull off a shocker in Round 2?
It's not unfair to say that TD's biggest threat going into Anaheim is their self-destructive tendencies. Triggers Down has had problems in the past keeping their focus and putting in the effort after winning an event. In the 2009 Season though, TD has been red hot, finishing 1st, 2nd, and 1st in each of the season's three competitions. It seems the TD we've seen this season has matured quite a bit from last year's collection of players. Heinz and Pistola have really found a home with Triggers Down, and as a result, the rest of the league will be chasing them as Anaheim gets underway. If Triggers Down is able to avoid being upset at the hands of Active Rush in Round 1, it's likely they'll take on the seventh seeded team, Status Quo, in Winners Bracket Round 2. Status Quo will need to knock off Heaven & Earth to reach this point in the bracket, which will be no easy task. Should both teams make it this far, fans will be treated to a display of some of the league's brightest young stars. For Status Quo, Anaheim is a chance to come out and prove they don't need Strongside to finish in the Top 8. His departure for Final Boss came after Status Quo opened the season with two consecutive seventh place finishes. With Strongside gone, many fans questioned whether or not the trio of youngsters, Ace, Totz, and Flamesword, would be able to breach the Top 8 ever again. After a failed attempt with the likes of Clutch in Dallas, Status Quo will be looking to a seasoned veteran in Legend to help them reemerge as a contender on the MLG Pro Circuit. If the teams happen to meet up in WBR2 in Anaheim, it will mark the second straight event the teams have met in that exact point in the bracket. In Dallas, TD took down SQ in a relatively tight 3-1 series. Let's take a look at the gametypes that will be played in Winners Bracket Round 2 and examine how a possible match-up between these two teams could play out. |
