When we look at all of the possible second round matches, Instinct vs. Classic is probably one of the most anticipated of the bunch. The duel has all of the makings of a historic bout.
With Ghost no longer on the squad, Instinct is hoping a 5K reunion with FearItSelf will help the team to its first ever Championship.
History In the past two Pro Circuit Live Competitions, Instinct and Classic have found themselves staring one another down in pivotal points in the bracket. In Columbus, it was Classic who shocked Instinct, giving them a rare finish outside of the Top 4. The upset rocked the MLG community, and is arguably one of the most surprising results this season. Dallas brought Instinct a chance to exact revenge upon Classic, and in a tight five-game-series, they were able to do so. Instinct and Classic have met a total of six times in Halo 3's two year history. Strangely enough, the winner of this match has alternated back and forth throughout Halo 3's history. Neither Classic nor Instinct have been able to defeat one another in two consecutive matches. If history is to hold true, Classic will need to emerge victorious in Anaheim. Rivalry As a member of Instinct in Dallas, Ghostayame helped the team to a solid third place finish. Shortly following the event, Instinct made the decision to let Ghost go, picking up FearItSelf of Final Boss to take his place. Classic jumped at the opportunity to add Ghost to the roster, and they'll now have a chance to help their newly acquired teammate lay down the smack on his former squad in Anaheim. Emotion is a powerful thing, and an angry ex-teammate is one of the toughest opponents you can imagine. Significance With rosters now locked for the remainder of the season, Anaheim will serve as the last chance for teams to improve their position and secure a spot heading into the National Championship. This Winners Bracket Round 2 match is of the highest importance, as the outcome could drastically affect the rest of each team's competition. A win would secure a spot in Winners Bracket Round 3, which would in turn guarantee a Top 6 finish. For the loser, the road to Top 6 becomes hazier, and they could finish as low as 16th. With the stage set, let's take a look at the gametypes that will be played… |
