After the shocking results of Dallas, this has got to be the most anticipated match in the second round for any MLG fan. Carbon is coming in to Anaheim off of their best finish in Halo 3 history. Their path of destruction in Anaheim led them right through Str8 Rippin, routing them 3-0 in WBR3. Following the loss, Str8 was able to scrape by Classic, but ultimately fell to Instinct in the following round, netting them a 4th place finish.
Carbon shocked Str8 Rippin and the rest of the community in Dallas. Who will emerge victorious in a possible rematch in Anaheim?
Heading into the match with Instinct, Str8 had never lost to the squad. For eight consecutive series Str8 had triumphed, but Dallas put that impressive streak to an end. Str8 was not their usual selves in Dallas. They’ve assured us they’re back for Anaheim. Str8 Rippin has won every other event in Halo 3’s history, so it won’t be all that surprising if history repeats itself once again. Carbon wasn’t really their usual selves either in Dallas though. They looked… well…good. That’s not to say they’ve looked bad up until this point, but never since the switch from Halo 2 to Halo 3 has team Carbon looked so good -- and it shows. Following the Dallas event, countless Carbon fans emerged from their dens, happy to welcome the team back to greatness. For their sake, let’s hope that the Carbon from Dallas is here to stay, no longer content to find themselves in the 7/8 Consolation match on Sunday instead of playing for the Championship. For this clash of titans to occur in WBR2 this weekend, both teams will need to make sure they don’t overlook their first round opponents. Str8 Rippin will take on a talented North of 49 team, while Carbon will need to avoid falling to The Influence, who came out of the Open Bracket in Dallas to finish within the Top 8 -- a feat that’s hard to ignore. Str8 and Carbon have now met a total of six times in Halo 3. Str8 holds the advantage 4-2, but as we said earlier, the last time the two teams met, Carbon easily bested Str8. Let's take a quick look at how a possible WBR2 series could play out… |
