I will say what I said in the general discussion thread.
congrats to VVV and GGs. Mad props to you guys for winning the tournament. I hope my team gets to play you guys in Dallas because I really do want to see what LAN competition is really like.
From what I saw in the VOD last night and this morning, I rarely saw any teams team-shooting. VVV, I didn't get a chance to see any of your games because my college connection sucks, but hearing the commentary and reading about it, it seems like you guys held your own on LAN and two thumbs up for that.
As for the other teams I saw, I was disapointed by the lack of teamwork used. Most everyone just rushed mid map, ie: Fuel Depot and went at it with shotties pulled. I couldn't understand that. Not one single team except for a few on War machine actually setup and used lan-based strats. It felt like I was watching an online match except without lag. I couldn't believe it.
Too many people downed one guy across a map like mid-map and then rushed into finish him and then got themselves engaged in a shotty battle which typically ended up not in their favor.
Too many people used shottys.
Word of advice regardless of what you think of me as a player or my team, this is LAN, use the tools of destruction. If you know a team is a rushing-style team, then sit back and coordinate cross fires and create 2v1 situations with lancers and pistols. so many times people could have 7-shotted people with the pistol and avoided a shotgun battle, never happened.
I hope to see some better LAN strats at Dallas. GGs to everyone who competed and another congrats to VVV.

Are you joking? Your college conncetion must really suck because apparenty you didn't see anything. I (being a GoW Ref) saw plenty of team shooting, strategy, and kick ass single player skills. You don't know anything about this game, and I am convinced of it. Stop trying to make everyone think that they aren't talented. If you were as good as you say, and you truly think that only shottys or pistols were used, then you are should have came to the meadowlands and won the money. At Dallas, you are going to have your feelings hurt by vVv, LGD Black and Red, and plenty of other teams that impressed me with thier teamwork, shooting, and individual skill.

You beat me to it. In all my matches, plus all the ones I watched, it was completely different than when people just abuse host online. I can't wait until you come to Dallas Vapor, and see how wrong you are, and see you get crushed by everyone. You make it sound like you have it so easy because "you know what to do, and other teams don't", well unfortunately, you've got another thing coming buddy...

I would have to disagree with you as well Dan. There was plenty of team shooting and strats pulled during the weekend. If you did not see many on VoD then I am sorry. You will be in for a suprise at Dallas if you think that this will be a run in the middle and shoot type of tournament. Changing plans on the fly and adapting is also a key part of winning a match at a LAN like this. There is always another match ready for you every 20-30 minutes your playing the next team. Team shooting is a must even more so down to a final 2v1 or 3v1. As far as the use of shotgun there was a lot of it being used more so then expected. I thought it would be more pistol than anything but this being said it was not all shotgun no pistol I think there was plenty of pistol through all of the matches. Remember you are dealing with a very small sample of matches, we all had 64 teams through a double elim tournament almsot 20 hours of playing, there was lots of great team plays and plenty of pistol. Cannot wait till Dallas, see you there Dan...

It is really weird, I watched some of you guys on vod... and it really looks like the way I play... same habbits developed, everything. I have never watched any of the videos before now and there really is no distinct difference between my play-style and vvv's. Except for the fact that I don't do so much quick aiming, If you guys really wanted to improve you can increase your speed, and master the hip-fire. If you get that down then you won't have to get .25 second pauses in between shotgun strafing/sliding. Oh, and you want to see some hardcore ****? Try playing online with my connection :P http://www.speedtest.net/result/138092158.png (http://www.speedtest.net) Believe it or not, I still usually get most of the kills in a game. Bullet Lag FTW!

No, I am not joking, sorry. Yes, my college connection does suck, buffers all the time. I was at my gf's friday night watching a few matches on her computer and I was able to talk to some peeps from the forums in IRC and watch the matches, and believe it or not, people that normally debate with me on here actually agreed with me that people were rushing too much.
Of course you're going to see much more teamwork and strategy than I will since I don't have the ability to watch every single match going on. All I said in my post was that from the few matches I did see, those SPECIFIC matches didn't show much teamwork with the EXCEPTION of the ones on War Machine.
How am I making people think they're not talented? Are we not allowed to show criticism? Is every single team out of the 64 a top team? No. There were matches plain and simple that didn't display much teamwork, and that is what I was pointing out.
I know plenty about the game but hey, you've already made up your mind before you even read my posts, when you see, "dan91bauer" as the poster, you've already got a 95% negativity towards me based off my past posts. That's fine and cool, whatever.
Like I said originally, PROPS TO VVV FOR WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP AND BEING THE FIRST GOW MLG CHAMPIONS! With that being said, I hope that the Dallas tournament is even better than Meadowlands because I know that some new teams are going to be attending and the competition should be just as fierce.
Stop taking everything I say so literal and stop thinking im generalizing everything because I am not. I simply commented on what I saw. Take a chill pill.

The game looked the same as it is online because it is pretty much the same game as it is online.
Lan pistol isn't as easy to use as a host pistol, even though it is still good, a shotgun is still way better than it. And I don't know what the hell you were watching dan, but vVv ran through us and lgd red by using rushes, even when both our teams were set up with lancers trying to stop them, I think they just started a whole new way to play this game.

Dan, I am so sick and tired of you and your negativitiy. You constantly find something to bring into a negative limelight. The game does NOT need to be played any particular way, each team has their own unique style and all of them will develop over time. Just stop the nonsense and go to Dallas and play. You would think you would add your 2 cents AFTER you've been to an event....

lol I take a break from Gears just to come back and see Dan, like always, whining like a girl.
When Dan analyzes Gears of War it is liken to a crippled midget analyzing the NBA. Just a joke all around since he clearly isn't a capable player, or analyst for that matter.
Until you actually do something noteworthy in this game Dan, you're just another overly opinionated, rag-tag wannabe gamer, that needs to put up, or shut up.
Here's my tip for you: Take 10% of the time you devote to complaining, and go practice against real players. Maybe then you'll get something to contribute to the conversations...maybe....
Grats to vVv you guys came a long way from the last time we played  . Keep up the good work.

NOOOOOOO. That's not what I said. I think you're all just taking what I said completely out of CONTEXT!
What I said and I will try to make it read out easier, I saw teams RUSH each other at mid-map on the matches that I saw. I was curious as to why a team would just rush to the middle and duke it out with shottie's pulled? It was like watching the movie 400 where Xere's armies just kept rushing and rushing into the Spartans and the Spartans just kept crushing them over and over and over. That's what I saw and I didn't say EVERYONE DID that. I perhaps saw about 4-5 different matches amongst 4-6 diff teams.
I didn't say RUSHING is bad. Obviously if VVV did rushes and it worked, then why would you stop doing what works? I also didn't say, hey look...if you're rushing and it's working can you please stop rushing us? No. I didn't say that.
All I noticed as that teams repeated what failed over and over and over. They didn't adjust nor did they change their approach once a specific strat failed. That's why I just used the 400 example.
Anyways, that's all:) Peace.

vVv beat LGD Black 3-1 in losers bracket.
They had lost to LGD Red 2-3 earlier, so the series changed to "Best of 11" I believe, keeping the 2-3 score. vVv won all 4 maps in the finals, to win by a final score of 6-3 against LGD Red.

I want to give mad props to both LGD teams. We had a lot of fun. I think the best thing about being at the event is that we can all put the BS behind us.
There is an exciting season ahead of us. We're very proud of our team, but we're already looking to the next event, what we can do better and how we can stay on top.
I also want give props to Arctic and vBi.
To Dan: I think once you are at Dallas, and you get to play, you'll get a better feel for the game. As I've always debated you, I'll just say it again:
There is a time to team lancer and a time to blitzkrieg with the shotgun. The speed at which the top teams adjusted is what makes Gears such an amazing game. Keep in mind that LGD Red did best us 3-2 the first time we played. And we knew we had to adjust two things:
1) Challenge Fiber's Sniping,
2)and not let Red set-up and pick us off.
We had to hit them hard and fast. I share this simple analysis becasue I was there. It is what we did, and it worked. Next time we play, guess what. . . Red will have adjusted, Black will have adjusted, (and many other teams) and so will we adjust. Gears is the fastest game on the circuit. All this idea of team shooting vs. shotgunning. . . that's the wrong mindset. It's about tactically adjusting to minimize your opponents strengths and exploit their weaknesses.
Since day one, Dan, I have argued with you about the game and how it plays. I can't offer any more example of the credibility of my position except to say: We did just win MLG Meadowlands. I think we're doing something right.
Another FYI: The TOP 8 . . . each of those teams deserved to be there. I watched a lot of matches and what I saw told me one thing: Whoever gets crowned as champion after the first season finishes up. . . they will have to earn it. I have more respect for these teams then ever before. I look forward to Dallas.
One final word: To those who said the Gears community is a bunch of immature, spoiled kids . . . what I saw at MLG Meadowlands was the best kind of behavior, sportsmanship and talent that so rightfully earns Gears a spot on the MLG Pro Circuit. And judging by the crowds. . . it's really fun to watch!
See you in Dallas!

Mouse,
If you reread Dan's post, he simply stating that from the matches he DID see, there was way to much mid-map rushing and whatnot. He didn't make a mass generalization of ALL the teams and flat out admitted that he didn't see all the matches. Frankly, I think that you just have it out for Dan since you disagree with his viewpoints (as do many who visit these forums). Take everything that he says as "negative" and ignore all the positive. If you do recall, he gave props to vVv and the other teams that were playing well. Jeez, lighten up a little man!!
Eshelon,
See, the problem is, his post IS negative. His "Compliments" are back-handed, meaning that he doesnt really mean what he says, and is instead trying to disrespect vVV (and other gears teams) through his words. How do you compliement somebody, and then say that all he saw was bad (in his opinion) play? All he saw was a small amount of games (admitedly), but his based his entire "argument" on that. Does a scientist take minor amounts of data and try to make it seem fact? No. So why is it okay for Dan91Bauer to do so?
What would have been the problem with asking how teams played in the Meadowlands, or taking a "I wanna see VoD before I cast judgement" stance? The problem I have with Dan (which I have stated many times before) is that he is opinionated to the point on nausea. He never backs up any of his statements with facts, and he is, to put it bluntly, a jerk. This post was a "Congrats to vVV" post, not "Lets hear Dan's Opinions on the three games he saw, hear him make generalities on these games, and then sorta say congrats to vVv, but with that I still think you suck smerk" post. I am a Gears Ref, and honestly, I wasn't expecting the best. However, the players proved me wrong. I saw great strats, smart, team oriented play, and action. Thier was good rushing, team rushing, great sniping (Fiber0ptix is hands down the best sniper in Gears), and clutch play. I also saw the game (at least among the better teams) the way it was MEANT to be played: Communication, and a progression of weapon usage-Lancer, Pistol, Shotgun. Teams who tried "online strats" (Shotgun first) Got owned very quickly, and very easily by a good team of communicators. The teams with the most success (N3, Red, Black, TLR, NSANZE, vVv, Vbi) never stopped talking. They always knew were a player was, what weapons were off the map, etc. They also adjusted to how other teams played. There were fuel depot games where neither team when for the sniper, but attacked a teams spawn. There were canal games where Torque couldn't get touched. Also, the glitches neither added nor subracted from the game. Weapon sliding, while used, did not affect the outcome of any game. If nothing else, it added to the high risk, high reward style that GoW should be known for.
Anyway, to sum up my little conversation here- If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. If you have something bad to say, at least have some facts to back up your arguement. Since Dan cannot follow number 2, he needs to follow number 1.
Jolla,
Jihad

Answer- Yeah, there were. I almost disqualified on team for being late, then CURSING me out becuase they had to forfeit thier first game (Get Known, who went on to beat HC+). The only reason they were still there was because the other team wanted to play them. We also ran overtime that first day (1am???? ) due to teams not being prepared and ready at thier stations. There was also a lot of bickering with the refs about in game/cd glitches (which are the things that neither team nor mlg can do anything about), and a ton of yelling. Just so those in Dallas know, that happens again, there are going to be a lot of people going home early, and not because they lost rounds. I know for a lot of you, Meadowlands was your first lan tournament, but please be aware of time constraints, DO NOT LEAVE THE VENUE unless told you can go, and always expect for your team to be called. Oh yea, next person to cuss at me is gonna make me lose my job, cuz I am going to beat the _______ out of you.

I really want to stress the "what I saw" part. LOL The games vVv was involved in were all well behaved and well-reffed. I'm sure there were problems, but I didn't see it in the teams we played. I'm sure a lot of people learned a lot at this LAN, and won't repeat the same mistakes.
BTW: You rock!

Two things:
1) You are spot on in your analysis
2) I posted this above: We had to adjust to red, and the two things we had to adjust to: 1)Fiber's sniping and 2) LGD's set-ups
In the end, excellent points and I think this analysis is spot on.

Eshelon,
See, the problem is, his post IS negative.
Anyway, to sum up my little conversation here- If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. If you have something bad to say, at least have some facts to back up your arguement. Since Dan cannot follow number 2, he needs to follow number 1.

First off, I must congradulate vVv for winning it all this past weekend.Second. To LGD, it was awesome to finally meet you guys and I really enjoyed watching you play. Rage, you prepaired your teams greatly and LGD got rewarded with second and third place. Congrats on the placings.
Now to YOU, Dan91bauer. I have seen such rediculous posts come from you these past few months but none as rediculous as what your trying to say in this very thread. I quit playing GoW and hated the game, but I gained a ton of respect for it when I saw first hand how the top teams handle themselfs on LAN.
I did see a couple of teams out of the 5 hours of Gears that I watched Friday night who didn't team shoot and who resorted to trying to shotgun. But other than that lots of teams had such great teamwork and team shots. FiberOptix has the sickest sniper in Gears of War I have ever seen.

Lets get this straight. You were the first one to curse. I was maturely telling my team mate to shut up and let me reason and you did not allow us to reason. Were all sitting in our chairs ready to play.
Also the other team didn't want to play us they wanted a forfit they were deffinitly the more immature out of our two teams but if your going to curse at me i dont care who you are i will respond. Its in my blood its just something i do. Im not afraid to talk. Anyone who knows me knows this. But all in all it worked out the other team was talking a lot of **** to the kid sitting on the right of me (jepz) who was having a hard time calming down.
The other team even had their coach try to threaten to punch my team mate in the face and hes like 15 year old...thats immature. Team Sin i believe they are called. Its whatever though they didn't take a round and we went on to play in the biggest upset of the night defeating my good friends clan HC+ on the main stage. Good thing we were DQed. You dropped the f bomb first i just responded. But we shook hand and i assume this chapter is closed for now.

wow...I disrespected VVV in my posts? Yah...right. I see how this is. I said from the few matches that I saw, I saw very little teamwork and I saw a lot of teamwork on matches that took place on War Machine.
Did I make a generalization from my VOD time that EVERY single team played that way? Nope. Did I say that VVV sucked? Nope. Dangermouse, you're being very unfair saying that I'm actually meaning something else.
Believe me, I'm not one for holding back words or my opinion of something. If I thought VVV sucked, I'd come out and say it. However, obviously they didn't suck, otherwise they would not have won the entire tournament.
Now I wont name names of teams that I saw play, but of the ones I did, I thought those teams made very poor decisions in their strategy and their teamwork.
My gosh, I'm afraid to post on the forums from now on because I don't even know for sure if what i'm saying is what I really mean??? My gosh, I've gone PYSCHOTIC!!!! Thanks for verifying what I actually meant Danger Mouse. Thank you for taking my words from my posts and twisting them into something they're not.

Are you implying that a MLG referee would lie? The maturity of the guys I worked with when it came time to do so was amazing, as far as I'm concerned everything you are saying is complete bull crap. If the chapter is "closed" then don't bother trying to create more internet drama.
And for the whole Dan issue occurring in this thread, we all need to just chill out, its the internet. This is a thread to commemorate the championship team for gears, if we are going to start analyzing teams and such lets wait for VoD where we can make a serious analysis of how gears works on lan.

But obviously you were not there. I was. So you basically have no say in the matter and its not spamming its completely on topic in being the fact its a responce to someone elses statement. I clearly did not provoke him and nexy was right there. Did i say he wasn't a cool guy ? im simply stating the fact that he did the provoking.
Nexy told us to reason with him which we tried to do. But we won the match so its over. You were not involved but if someone is going to threaten me expect me to respond. Thanks for your imput though.

And I am seriously not going thru this, but you must (per mlg rules) be in your seat ready to play, and that doesnt mean sitting down. That means having your profile, control configs, etc ready to go. That is why there is a 5 minute period before your team is called again. Your team was called the first time, I went and reported it to the my boss (nexy), who called your team again. At this point, 3 of your teammates were at the station, at which point you were given the time and warned that if your teammate was not sitting and PREPARED (see above) to play, then you would forfiet your first round. At this point, one of your teammates became upset, and I told him if he has a problem, he needs to go speak with nexy. Nexy said his judges decisions are final, and I asked you to get ready. Your friend screamed that he is TRYING to reason (and for the record, no one reasons when they are trying to scream and cuss at someone, especially me), and I told him again to sit down, explained the rules, AGAIN, and said lets go. At this point, he gets up AGAIN (which I could have DQ'd you for), and Nexy comes over, at which point he explictly asks me if I wanted to DQ your team for cursing and berating an offical, because he heard you, and he saw me getting really pissed off. I asked the other team, and they said, NO, give us the 1st game, and we will play them the rest of the way. At this point, Nexy tells me if its good with me, then he doesn't care, but the next time they curse, they are out of here. (note: I did not hear thier coach say something to you or one of your players. I personally apologive for that, but if any player or coach begins taunting, inform your referee so he/she can monitor the situation). After the game, I came up to speak with ALL of you, informed you again of the rules, and answered any questions you may have had. That being said:
I am a grown man, with a wife and a child. I play games professionally, have been on the Halo scene as long as there has been a Halo scene, and I am very well respected in the community. I don't have time for that kind of crap. The only reason I didn't swing my clipboard upsides someones head was because I RESPECT what Sundance, Clap, etc are tryign to do. I have said it before, and I will say it now- Console kids are beyond spoiled when it comes to Tournaments, especially you new (H2, GoW) kids. You don't know what was like to play in the back of a dave n busters, or bring your own TV and Xbox for a tournament. You don't know about network cables being thrown out of windows so you could LAN, or playing in a warhouse while thier is a wedding going on in another room. What about grainy, bootleg online video clips of games just to see something awesome? What about playing a non-online game thru massive lag, jsut to practice? Oh no, instead you guys have Xbox Live, Boost Mobile Lounges, VoD, etc. My point is, I have seen the progression, and I know how far it can go. Because of this, I respect what the commisioner, the judges, and the staff, from security on down, are doing to make these events successful and mindblowing for the average, the semi-pro, and the professional gamer. That is the only reason I didn't act like the angry (and very large) black man I am and hop off in your ass (no ****).
Now, if we have no problems , I would like to congradulate you guys on overcoming adversity and beating both the team (SIN?) and Beating HC+. You guys (maybe except for vVv) were the suprise fo the night, and the reason why I can't wait for Dallas.
