View Full Version : Forge Contest Deadline Extension?

Could MLG extend the deadline for the Forge the Foundry contest by a week or two?

I doubt they anticipated the amount of time making a good map would require, given the difficulties of using Forge on Foundry.

I think that extending the deadline by a couple of weeks would result in more refined maps, and just more good maps in general.

I myself haven't really had much time to mess around on Foundry up until now. But that can happen to everybody, as we saw with v3 needing a few more days of testing and thus missing its original expected release date (today). Not that I have a problem with v3 missing its projected deadline... I just wanted to use it as an example of how things can sometimes take longer than we expect. I'm sure the v3 settings will be better because of the additional testing being done, and I expect that the Forge the Foundry entries would see similar improvements if the deadline was to be pushed back.

So how about it, MLG?

I agree. Also with all the holidays I haven't had much time to mess around with forge much.

It takes at least a few days worth of testing to find things wrong with your map, not to mention all the time it takes to straighten every edge, spawn points, etc.

I think it should also be extended because a lot of people haven't purchased the new maps, so they aren't able to enter the contest.

if a map is good then it will be discovered. the forge foundry contest is great, but if an epic map is made outside of the contest then it will be discovered and used.

plus, you have 10 more days. take a chill pill

Do you think that would be cool?

Well I agree with the fact-- forge isn't easy to use. There is no way around the that, If you want to make a good map, its going to take a lil... jk a lot of time.

I agree more time would be nice but it has to end sometime down the road. I am making 2 more maps, and In forge.. the process for making quality maps in less than 10 days is nothing more than my own fault... but like said more time, contests usually tend to stick to their announced last entry date :(

No kidding. Salot has nothing better to do with his time and made a decent symetrical map and Blam he is ne the front page. Nothing against him but people with jobs Have been working 48+hours a week for the past 3 weeks and no one else has seen any kinda spotlight. Even just to help others get a feel for what MLG is looking for.

MLG shouldn't extend the contest ! It wouldn't be fair to all the competitors who made their map within the time limit...

I do to have better things to do with my time i just choose to mess around with foundry. And with the highlighted section of your Quote was that really necessary? And also i do have a job i have whats called my own business so 48 hours a week lol please i work 60 + hours a week and i still find time to mess around on forge ( And if your talking about forging for 48+ hours a week then i won't tell you the irony in your comment). Because you dislike what they are doing gives you no right to call me out and put me in the spotlight it is not my fault they highlighted my map so please for future references if you angry at someone else please don't pull someone else that has no part of it into your remarks or thoughts.

It is not descent , If it was just descent after 200 entries i would just be another map And to be honest if i was like or well known and i would of put this map out and you guys would of started saying this is a sweet map. But i am not well known or like so this is the remarks i have grown to know. And now your mind has went blank and have nothing to say feel free to read my Quote, i think you might fall under the 3rd saying.

I'd like to have an extension so there would be a greater possibility of seeing good maps. You can't make a good, well-balanced map in only a day or two, sometimes not even a week. After 3 weeks of tweaking and reinventing my map, I feel it's done, but I would like more time to be able to playtest on it.

So I'm in support for the time extension.

There has been plenty of time to forge something. And honestly, it doesn't take as long as you say. And if you need help placing items and what not, get someone to help you. The resources are out there. Just ask people. And if you have downtime during your day, think of ways to improve your map, write them down, and then work on it when you get home or whatever.

Wasn't me. Someone has to just be a dickface flamer IE You spelled tihs wrong so shut up and go away kinda thing. Nothing against you. You got lucky and I envy you for it sorta.
I just wish there was a way to get to test a lot of these maps. 1 game doesn't work. I think it took me 4+ games to get a grip on my own map. It is a lot different fighting on it tha flying around.

It takes a good 40 hours to forge a decent map. If your lining things up, taking your time, playtesting, etc. It can take substantially longer.

I have put over 100 hours into two maps, and if you want your map to be good then this kind of time is a must. Oh and that being said im pretty good with forge. I dont struggle to move things around. I am fairly quick at getting things where I want them.

Also, some people are taking every suggestion into account and trying to please everyone. I tried that for awhile, and it ended up wasting a lot of time. Plus if you're complaining about not having enough time to make x number of maps, then don't make x maps. Make fewer than that. The time spent on more than one submission is time that could have been spent on the other submission to make it a more viable candidate. And honestly, if there are complaints that they don't have enough time to finish all their submissions, well tough luck. It's not a contest for the best set of maps. It's the best map of four separate categories. Focus on whatever you think is your strongest submission to make sure it's complete.

And yes, rigorous play testing does take time and more than 1 game. I know that. Easiest thing to do? Make friends with the other map makers that actually give constructive criticism and willing to help out others. They're out there. Occasionally, they'll take the time to find things for you and end up saving you time. Doesn't hurt.
