This is my map Gunsmoke. I am submitting this map for the Forge the Foundry sub-category of Best FFA Map. While I was constructing this map, I absolutely did not care how pretty it looked. As MLG is a competitive league, I only focused on the playability of it. Is this a balanced map? Does everyone have an equal chance at winning? Will skill be the only factor that determines a victor? These were all questions I asked myself while building this map. Is it pretty with big perfect architecture and whatnot... well no, but is it a competitive, well balanced, playable map? Absolutely. Give this map a download. I will not sit here and claim "Absolutely Best FFA Ever. You Will Not Find A Better One!" But I will assure you that it is a great map to play on. Not only in it's competitive aspect, but it's level of fun as well.

Wow, 17 replies and no reply or download? I have bad luck on these forums. A total bad kid will get a response before me.

I'm not at home right now, on Vacation but from the screenshots it looks like it could play really well. Im curious, can you get into the back hallway and little rooms on the base sides. And im curious where most of the spawning takes place. Strictly playing it looks to be fine, just wondering with those 2 off sections and how that effects (adds) to gameplay.

yeah you can get into those crates and the base rooms. i made a version where i had the bases cut off, and a version where i didnt. and the one where i didnt played better. but the way i balanced it is i added a teleporter in the base room to transport you closer to the center of the map (cuts down running time to give you a faster route to the fighting). the crates in the back and front are open to run through. spawns are throughout the map, and ones in the center of the map have some sort of protection to prevent spawn killing/camping. the map is amazingly simple, but i think making it TOO complex ruined the gameplay.

Cool thanks for the quick reply. Yea from what I'm seeing I like it. I like seeing those towers on each side. FFA is not about power weapon control and power ups, yet it still needs something to fight for. That something being good strong ground. Only thing Im not certain on is that back room you said. I haven't played it, but I just get this picture of people camping back in those. I also dont think one way teleporters are good for competition. You said you had it because its easier to get you to the action, dont have to run. As far as MLG goes and looking t your map I don't think its necessary. A BR can shoot across the map (decently accurately) and the openness of the map allows for it.

On a side note, I am not a map maker, nor some highly respected member of the community. Im just giving my oppinions, take them or leave them, thats up to you as its your map.

good point about the camping. and sorry for the teles, i explained them wrong actually. all they do is get you out of the rooms on the side of the map and put you more towards the door so you dont have to run through the hall way. although, i could just take out the window panels so the players can jump out...

happy one year anniversary to the forums by the way

I haven't played on it yet but a few suggestions..... Take em or leave em... I have done a walkthough

1. Take out the Truck it's pretty much a huge fusion core, replace with a crate if using for a jump
2. Spawning- I see a few spawn points right out in the open, not fun to get shot by 3 other players within 3 seconds of respawning.Also it seems like you could add a few more spawn points, not good to know where players will spawn next. Perhaps even a few
on the second level.
3. I would change out the wire spools or make them unable to move by placing something like a weapon holder or one way tele on them to keep them from moving.
4. The second level seems to have no cover at all through the center, i think something needs to be added here. Doesn't need to be big, could even just be a single wall. Just something to keep players moving in the map, not camping the second level corners.


Anyway good map, good play, hope to see a new version.

nice but if this is meant for 4v4 then think about adding cover to the top areas.

hey man thanks for the CONSTRUCTIVE critisism. good points there. i forgot about the truck, i could have sworn i took it out. anyway. thanks for the help, i will release v2 shortly.

saw man, its meant for FFA and ONLY FFA. i don't think it would work for anything else.

bump, i want to make sure that this map is exposed.

i am working on version 2. so is the general consensus that the 2nd floor needs more cover?
