For those that didn’t make the elite Forge Round Table—I have formed a group called forge des refuses. This is a group for beginner forgers, like myself. Here we teach the basics. Now every month I will give a latter of recommendation for one of my students to be considered for induction into the round table of forgers. Message me if your interested. Enrollment is 800 Microsoft points. I take Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.
Note-A letter of recommendation doesn’t guarantee acceptance into the Forge Round Table-- those nominated must receive a majority vote from the FRT gods to receive entrance into the elite society.

You are charging for basic forge lessons?
How does the community benefit from this?
Why not just make a tutorial?
You would get more respect.
And last time I checked the exchange rate between respect and MS points is so high in the favour of respect that we do not yet posses the technology capable of calculating the difference.
Anything you think you can charge to teach can be found for free by searchng the relevant forums.
Anyone lazy enough to pay you instead of doing that deserves to lose the MS points.

Chill dude. Your input would clearly be valued, you've more than proven yourself.
MLG Forging = Drama squared. Everyone needs to relax and stop name dropping and just forge.

haha this reminds me of my buddy posting on b.net. He gets kids level fifties and then they pay him in ms points or gold memberships; hilarious, sad, but good thinking. Sadly many kids will give up money out of their mommy and daddy's pockets TO BE A 50...and now TO HAVE BASIC FORGING SKILLS, haha genius.

why dont we do this the old fashion way. A forge competion every week or so. Winner get submited, and the thing is absolutely FREE.And the round table forgers get to test the maps out in games.
1 map pre person though so choose your map.

I'm pretty sure the point of this thread is to ridicule the roundtable thread for not including Kon and satirize the treatment of the "top forgers" as way above the rest. If that's the case, I think it's a pointless / incorrect observation that's not worth stirring up.

You haven't released any respectable maps, been commended by MLG in any way or demonstrated your ability to think competitively in Foundry. It's not a put down, I'm just saying that everyone mentioned in there has done all of those things. Kon has too so I am assuming this thread is basically his "wow cool, and I'm SO bad at forge" statement. So I agree he deserves to be recognized, I just think that everyone in this community is grade grubbing and dying for attention. Nobody is going to become a professional forger or anything, or at least they won't without others' input. If anybody wants to get really serious and make some maps that are fantastic AND used and loved by MLG, then they'd best realize that the only way to get that done is have a TEAM.
Anybody who says "oh that's impossible, everyone will want different things going on" is apparently never going in to management. You don't think that's a problem that EVERY BUSINESS EVER is facing? The world has lots of people and lots of opinions, but the only way to create a really great product is compromise and hard work. Forging isn't a sport, it's not populated by athletes. It's a creative process that will demand hard work and practice, and most of all COOPERATION and TEAMWORK.

many of my maps arent built for 4v4, but low partys liek 1v1 or 2v2(Bawx. Rend, Airborne, Rumble Fusion) but i have recently made a attmept at a 4v4 map called Apotheosize. Its built of off 12 or 14 peoples input and ideas. Most of it has been pretty positive, but I have yet to run many serious games on it. Actually ill do that tonite, for now im using a GT called A Bugiekid (ran outta live on ninjas =D)

So I have completed my freshman season of La Forge' De La Kon: School for forgers!!!! YA ME !!!
And I have been assigned an assigment: Design and construct a map from scratch to free the world of the FFA dilemma. Mr. A has assigned this project as 1/3 of my grade entering my sophomore term. Hopefully everyone can give me some extra funding via Konpal or Paypal if you're very generous to help me get going with the labor and resources required. Please send all check and money orders for the project entitled >>operation kill bkz<< to K0N ART15T or SavageBAMF. Thank you.

The Basics of forging a great competitive map. [design]
Forging is a skill, that can be thought, and with practices and patients can be mastered. There are many techniques that you can learn to make your maps look better and run smoother. However, designing a great map, comes more from the creative side of the mind with a deep understanding of the game-- In this first article, I will go through the creative process that I implement in map development, before ever turning my Xbox on.
Understanding Halo 3 and how it plays.
I have posted some thoughts on this in the past, and so have others. Here is a post from Nasty—I feel he gives some great guild lines to use when brainstorming.
DISCLAIMER: This thread is NOT about what you would like to see in an update. That's a discussion for another time. This thread is to establish once and for all what we like in general, as per the CURRENT STATUS of Halo 3's settings and options.
It's the most pressing question for this community right now, though we haven't realized it yet.
We've spent a lot of time arguing about:
The weapons we use
The maps we use
How we change the maps
and what maps we want re-made.
But what we never actually worked out was what we want the game to feel like.
Before we can make any more decisions about which maps we want to add and how we want to forge this map, and whether this weapon should be used, we have to agree on Halo 3's strengths and weaknesses, and what the best way is to play to them.
Pro player input would help a lot for this, but if we can keep a running debate on how to best test competition in this game, I'd be happy to keep a dynamic, running enumeration of what we as a community LIKE, and how we want to achieve that through game play options. It's my hope that we consider the 4 categories below and come to an educated conclusion about what makes a good map, weapon, power-up placement, etc.
Things the game play must do: (in order of importance)
1. Decide which team of 4 has the better combination of strategy, innovation, and shooting skill
2. Be completely balanced and fair for both teams
3. Move in a timely manner to promote tournament play
4. Be exciting to watch
Halo 3's natural strengths
1. When in range, the BR takes a lot of skill to lead and use properly. Out-BR'ing, when in range, exists again.
2. Momentum grenades - putting a grenade where you want it requires more thought than Halo 2
3. Sniping requires more skill, as long as your opponents are close enough to contest your scope
4. Jumps - many different jumps and techniques allow interesting traversal of the level
5. Weapons can be drop-spawned
Halo 3's natural weaknesses
1. Melees are unskilled and uninteresting without BLB, BXB BXR, variations but with lunge
2. Long range battles - they don't work like they should
3. Without melee options, close-range weapons run a thin line between too good and worthless
4. Average kill time with a BR is really long - doesn't reflect the skill required to hit all shots (assuming correct range)
5. Power-ups can't be drop-spawned
Game play Generalities
1. In 4v4, setups are actually good - as long as there are many interesting ways to break them (Jumps, coordinated grenades, partner jumps), and they are punctuated by grabs for power-ups
2. Power-ups/weapons should come up at a time both teams know about, or should spawn in a place that is easily seen/watched to prevent slippery slope victories
3. 3D level design is inherently better. Levels that require you to think of your opponents movement above and below you in addition to left and right make out-smarting your opponent more skillful. Imagine Midship with no area below the base, or Lockout without sword area - too simple.
So with these in mind, let's come up with a set of rules that govern what makes good and bad Halo 3 game play.
Halo 3 Golden Rules
1. Starting weapon = BR. To speed up game play, damage and movement should be at 110% to increase kill speed and accuracy requirements.
2. Level design should always promote battles that take place from short-mid to mid-long range. Either extreme doesn't work well under the Halo 3 engine.
3. Power-ups go in easy to see places, power-weapons go in hard to reach places. Both go away from any area you'd consider setting up in.
4. Blind sharp corners must be avoided whenever possible.
5. All levels should have multiple areas where a team can set up. All of these areas must be approachable from many different angles, and ideally there are innovative options for surprise attacks.
Now I decided the focus of the map, FFA, 2v2, 1v1, TS, CTF. . . or whatever. I never make a game for KOTH, b/c you can make KOTH work on any good map. After I have decided the Variants that I want my map to play, I make a decision on layout. Symmetrical, ( how many ways), or asymmetrical.
Then I grab a pen and paper, and start drawing lines that show movement, power points, and LOS. I usually draw many line sketches on paper, before I ever detail out a main structures on the map like a base or tower. After I have a general idea of the map layout and concept… I will turn on my box and start a ruff build.
