ok guys, i just recently started to visit this forum again, and while all these maps you guys are making are really good; they all follow the some forumula as onslaught:
symmetrical
a base at each end
a walkway on each side
some sort of walkway/platform along the line of symmetry

this is a pretty novice formula for a map. lets try to come up with a new style guys, imo those types of maps fail because they're just too wide open. there's really no strategy for players to use, it's just "setting up" at the strongest points on the map. im anxious to see an asymmetrical map with different levels and some sort of strategy involved.

im actually working on one myself, send me a f/r if youre interested - MephistOMG

Seriously the setting up on power points of maps is how the game is supposed to be played to win. Especially in MLG. These maps are not following in Onslaught's footsteps dammit 2 base maps have been stapled into foundry since the thing first came out, and in nearly every good bungie map there are oh look at that TWO bases. The layout of foundry is rectangular, naturally that flow would account for there being 2 bases.

i guess... but i would rather see a map with hallways, rooms, etc. - not just a wide open space with walkways and bases. that's too simple for a competitive game, especially since foundry is kinda small.

You're right, don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Check out the end of the roundtable thread for a sketchup model of the latest map I've been working on, Cryptech. It's exactly what you're talking about.

THAT'S THE PROBLEM.

Damnation
Chill Out
Hang 'em High
Prisoner
Derelict
Rat Race
Lockout

Those are pretty much the best maps in the Halo series -Midship, and they all completely lack an open 2 base setup.

There's a reason why people don't create many of these asymmetrical maps with rooms and hallways. There isn't enough materials to build a map like this in foundry. Building rooms eats up tons of materials, and most of us are not creating budget glitched maps anymore due to the framerate issues. Nexn's Chillout is the largest map like this that I've seen and even that is way to cramped to play 4v4 on. Also alot of people want CTF to work on there maps, this is a gametype that works best on a symmetrical 2 base map like The Pit or Midship.
I would really like to see someone create a map centered around oddball, since we don't have any maps to support this other that Guardian.

I made a map a while ago thats not symmetrical and it may have potential but idk I never got to test it out. I would put it in my fileshare again if I had a H3 disk to do it...

One of the best Foundry maps is still the Chill Out Remake!

I think there are still some symmetrical gameplay mechanics that are being experimented with forge that deserve more development, people shouldnt give up on symmetrical maps because the market is becoming saturated. As people make more and more symmetrical maps and feed off each others ideas and innovation the quality of maps will keep increasing.

Im not saying dont make asymmetrical maps, cos they rock too. I just dont think its fair to critique the progression of symmetrical maps by complaining about there popularity.

Besides amplified- By far I believe that the most recent work-well-done with an original feel is nexn/kronic smokes map. 2v2 testing was so much fun last night. 4v4 today to get the bugs worked on. Probably released by the night.
