the specs are underwhelming, but for a 400 dollar price, this mini notebook is a great deal. its ideal for trips/vacations (maybe an mlg event? who knows?). and its popularity was so big its sparked dozens of clones from other companies like HP everest, etc. the harddrive might seem small, but for 30 bucks you can get a 8 gig sdhc card from newegg, and countless mods/hacks have made it so people could solder flashdrive components to the motherboard for extra memory. idk. just thought id share.

The HP one looks nice. I'm thinking about letting my brother keep my old laptop and getting one of these badboys instead. Hmm...we'll see.

I have one, and I hate it.

Keyboard will absolutely drive you insane! I thought I was a pretty good typist, but my fingers are WAY too big for the child sized keyboard that comes with it.

Applications are very slow.

Take that $300-400 and buy a used laptop off of ebay......it will be faster and have a cdrom.

I'll sell mine + my 8gig HDCP card for a cool $300 if anybody wants to buy it on ebay.

I might take you up on that. Please PM the specs n'such. I'll talk to my brother and see if he wants half in, then I'll give him my old laptop (which he already has). XP or Vista? LMK. Seriously.

Picked up one of these a while ago for 270. Very portable and handy for classes. I have a few of my books in PDF form, so I can just take my laptop to class and have a bunch of books with me too. feel free to ask any questions about this thing. I got the 8.9 inch version with Linux.

Netbooks are really nice and practical, although I still don't think they are worth the price tag. Two of my friends have an eee PC and a Dell mini 9", both are very nice but for a bit more you could get a 15.4" laptop with much better specs, or a 13.1" laptop even. If I wasn't saving for a new laptop I'd probably get a Dell mini 9" :)

They have a ton of netbooks out now.. and soon the dual core Atom chips will be coming out. They aren't meant to have amazing specs, but like you said, just for portability. Internet browsing, flash gaming online, word processing, etc. They also run on Windows XP which doesn't require a lot so they actually run pretty efficient. However, for $400, sort of a waste. The only real difference is hard drive size, and I would rather get a smaller one for $250 and get an external 500gb for like $75..

The newer ones are nice, it would have been nice to get one with an atom processor, but I got mine for 270 so i can't complain. I already have a big laptop that I would bring to school sometimes, but a lot of my classes provide desktops or only require me using notepad++, so this is a nice portable machine to do that. The only thing about all of the new netbooks i'm seeing is some are going in a good direction, and some are going in bad direction. I've seen some people modify an HP mini with a sim slot, so let's say you have an at&t phone with unlimited data plan, you can just pop out that sim card and put it in the HP, and you have 3g internet virtually anywhere, on a full browsered laptop. however other companies like asus keep trying to upgrade the netbooks, even in size, which sort of defeats the purpose of them. they are making 13 inchers now with blah blah specs and what not, and I'm thinking "this is what we had before with just cheap notebooks". I think the point of a netbook should be it's unrivaled portability, but that's just me.
