With a rhyming title like that you know it has to be interesting!

I know some of these topics have been hit on in other threads and I have read through most of them, what I am trying to do here is synthesize what I have read and ask some new questions.

Halo 3 is currently the forerunner of MLG, and halo has been for years; but will Halo 3 be able to live on like Halo 2 did?

In this thread I am going to hit on MLG and PC gamming, Halo 3 and its status, MLGs goals as a BUSINESS, and how all of these will come together to form the future of MLG and competitive gamming.

First off, as we all know MLG has adopted World of Warcraft: TBC into competitive play. Now I am going to spare most of my discussion on this topic because this is not the place, but in a nut shell....

TBC offers an incredible audience to witness MLG and raise awareness about it worldwide. I view WoW as a stepping-stone for MLG into the PC world. I say this because, having played WoW for a long time, its ability as a competitive tournament style game is questionable, there is a post on this in the WoW forum, I will probably post a link later, but I digress. WoW will undoubtedly work, but other PC games will work better, and I think WoW is the perfect stepping stone to bring PC into MLG due do its high popularity, but I think in the future we will see more PC games emerge in MLG e.g. Starcraft 2 and maybe PC FPSs.

Economically adding PC is an amazing idea for MLG, obviously they attract more players to more games, which means more money, not to mention all the new sponsors that will be attracted. PC allows MLG to reach a more global scale, and the effects of this change will be interesting.

Halo 3, so far, has not lived up to Halo 2 and I think we can all agree on this. Now I am not condemning it or going to rant about it, I am going to leave it at that. From what I can tell, Halo 3 is not gaining as much steam or momentum as Halo 2 did. One question I ask myself is, how long will Halo 3 live? How long will it remain the poster child of MLG? Obviously these questions cannot be answered fully because the game is still being changed and patched, but speculation is always fun.

Some food for thought:

-Will Halo 3 be as successful as Halo 2? Even with PC gamming being incorporated?

-What effects will PC gamming have on MLG as a whole?

-Could potential players for Halo 3 be attracted from this added publicity, or is the publicity just going to cast Halo 3 deeper into shadow due to its currently imperfect play?

-Will Bungie now be more encouraged to work with MLG and tweak the game so it can live up to its potential?

The goal of this thread is to have an intelligent discussion on Halo 3 and how it will fit into MLG with PC gamming being added, and the current “playability” of Halo 3.

I am very interested as to what some of you have to say about this.

Edit: Heres the link that analyzes WoW as a competitve game, and I agree with it having played it.

It depends on what constitutes success. Halo 3 has a thriving fan base right now. There's a whole new generation of Halo players playing it. Will more and more people continue to join MLG? I doubt it. Bungie made the game perfect for casual gamers. There is no reason for anyone not wanting to compete to play MLG.
I think PC gaming will have little effect on Halo 3. (This is my take on what I've seen around here.) Let's face it, if you want to be at the top of your game in any game, including WoW, you need to dedicate yourself to it. Players probably won't make the switch from Halo 3 to WoW. Players that play WoW probably won't switch to Halo 3 when they find out how big it is in MLG.
-What effects will PC gaming have on MLG as a whole?
MLG aren't hurting themselves by adopting WoW. In my opinion they went the best route possible. They are attracting an enormous fan base. More advertisers will be on the way. MLG houses the demographic that many advertisers want to hit. More advertisers will cause MLG to grow even larger. I don't see them picking up FPS's because the fan base isn't there on the scale it is with WoW.
-Could potential players for Halo 3 be attracted from this added publicity, or is the publicity just going to cast Halo 3 deeper into shadow due to its currently imperfect play?
I think that all the people that are ever going to be playing Halo 3 are playing right now. It's not like the game came out under the radar. They saturated the market, and anyone that was interested has already tried it. MLG isn't a secret anymore either. I don't predict any massive amount of new players joining because of the added attention.
-Will Bungie now be more encouraged to work with MLG and tweak the game so it can live up to its potential?
I don't see the connection between WoW and Bungie. I think collaboration is definitely going to increase in the future, but not for that reason.

Hopefully halo 3 will see some more patches in the near future. At this point there is still tons of potential for competitave playability with forge, damage mods, speed mods etc. I don't think WoW is going to cause any problems for halo 3 in the future of MLG. I also think halo 3 will have a longer life span then halo 2 simply because its the last game in the trilogy. Halo 3 will probably become more like CS and be more of an ever lasting game if it is patched and upgraded every so often. Alot of people would still be playing halo 2 if halo 3was never released. If hit detection and more competitave maps come out I think halo 3 will be a great game for competitave play.
