The Curvature Effect:The effect that can be used in forge to make surfaces and the design of maps become curved. This isn't just the appearance but how it plays too. I am not talking about a double box merge double box curve but a gradual real curve.
The Curvature Effect is an idea i got from an asymmetrical map made by DBUK Baron that never hit the forums:x . Well what he had on his map was a semi curved corner of the map. This gave me an idea of making a completely curved map. But after taking a couple of looks at his curving corner i thought of an idea to make a simpler more sufficient(less bumpy,less objects used) way of doing so. So i present to you my sketch up designs of the carbine side of my map in progress Adrenaline.

The pictures might be confusing and i can guarantee that what i said was probably confusing so i will be releasing a tutorial and pictures of the real carbine side of my map in forge on foundry. This for sure will give you a better understand of what to do and how to do it. Tell me what you guys think and i hope you can use this effect in your maps it really is something cool to have in your map.

Augh, you beat me to this. I've been working on a map that's a circular BR arena. It took me 5 attempts before I came up with a good system, I don't know how yours works but mine involves using box hills as rulers, i've come to the conclusion that box hills are the best measurement guideline for absolute perfection.

well i use re spawn areas and make str8 lines with them. Then i line all corners up by using four lines acting as rulers. But yeah i have been working on this map for about 3 weeks i'm trying to get everything as perfect as possible. Also i have been reworking carbine a various number of times. This sketch up is a different top design that i had planned and already have worked into forge but i like this design better. I cant wait to get my xbox back...

I think Nexn and kronic bet all of you-- there is a map called <<<Lockdown>>>, and this looks just like pink. Oh wait, cadie bet them too <<<Collisum>>> the map nexn and kronic used as the blueprint for the first Lockdown.

Very nice design Zonked, Im honoured that my idea impressed you that much.
Lockdown did indeed beat us all to it, and is a bloody awesome creation.

I am definately going to release a map using the curve that has inspired you.
I just cannot settle on a final build for the idea.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/tigaer/locky.jpgno, i'm using 16 boxes to create a complete circle. i've never seen anyone do anything above 8. the sketchup up there also uses 9 boxes to create a half circle, this isn't the same at all. i will also doing other things with the geometry that are definitely impressive. i'm done with college tomorrow and hopefully i'll be able to finish the map for good later this week...it's gonna be greater than grifball, trust me

i use hills instead of respawn zones because i find the little tick marks while not completely reliable can help you get a sense of your bearings

not trying to downplay lockdown, it's good, but when you see the finished product you're gonna be like !!!

I still think that uses up to many resources and budget, if you can pull it off with a great map though, great.

okay well my xbox is broke i got the red rings but when i get it back i will. And sorry if you think i took it from lockdown but when i show you my carbine isnt even what i have on my sketchup. I just redesigned it yesterday and i think it would work better. The only trouble im having while designing this map is the bases im stuck =[.

Dont forget you will need to geo the furthest walls on each side into Foundry's wall.

yeah dont worry im going to need all of the help i can get. This map is going to take a lot of time and effort to make.

in order to place the 16th side walls (the ones that aren't at a 90 or a 45) i recommend that you use a double wall and line the two edges up with the same rivet. don't dare attempt to place the box any way other than the metal side up, when you geo that many objects together they will come together crooked at any other orientation i've found. my original attempts at making a curve i tried putting the metal side as the wall and it always came out lopsided even with savequit glitch. something seems to go all wrong when you try and geo that many boxes together.

Sounds nice but it seems like there is so many arena maps on foundry... I just finished a good map using the entire open area of foundry including the bases and its still balanced and i've ran a few games of 3v3 mlg on it and it is sweet. Shaped like an H and its all geo'd. Check it out on my fileshare... Trill on3 its called Trillology Labs.... I also have another map on there called The Traphouse that is an arena map i made a while ago that i have adjusted since being up on the file share but its still pretty sick... let me know when you are done with the arena you got going or FR me for some help on the bases

Here's a nice map from Forgehub. Displays some fine interlocking; it might be a good example for those of you wishing to make a non-square Foundry map. Go look up the other maps by that forger: he has some of the best Forge work I've ever seen.

I always thought it was pretty common knowledge that you could use flat surfaces at different angles to make a circular map. The reason so few people attempt it is because:
1. it uses up a lot of budget and resources, and
2. Foundry is already pretty damn small. Spawning people is hard enough without taking out 1/6th of the map's area for no real reason. Corners can be annoying but when used correctly, it is better to have that extra room for spawning people than to simply block it off.

Zonked and I are actually collaborating on this map now: His sides, my bases, and we have a pretty sick concept being worked out right now, so stay tuned for updates :)

my bad man for the past two days ive been working on a science project. i have to write an 8 page essay on supernovas, it suckks. ill be on today though. Can'y wait to see what you have done with the sketchup =]
