OverDrive Competetive MLG Map

Overdrive has been my project for the past little while now (I forget how many hours total) in this final version I believe I have perfected my map to the best of my forging ability. I hope everyone here enjoy's my map as much as I have enjoyed working on it.

Desription:

OverDrive Is a perfectly symetrical two base map that takes elements from Midship, Beaver Creek, Sanctuary and to a lesser degree Onslaught.It is multi leveled in almost all areas possible. On each side there is a semicircle type base with a roof made of Bridges, there is a door in the back of the bases used for jumping on top of theese roofs. The top center of the map works and play's very similar to P2 of Midship, That is to say it is a power position where teams may set-up and grab some nice hight advantage, however there are many jumps and discreet acess routes other teams may use to break your set-up. To the right of each base there is a ramp leading up to top mid similar to beaver creek of Halo 2, and to the left of each base there is a teleporter that leads to the opposite corner. Under Top mid there is a single box GEO'd in to the ground which houses a Custom power up.

Weapons:
4 Battle Rifles on 10 second Respawn
2 Carbines on 30 second Respawn
1 Mauler on 120 second Respawn
Custom Powerup on 180 second Respawn
4 Fragmentation Grenades on 10 second Respawn
4 Plasma Grenades on 30 second Respawn

What happened to the geos?
Sorry I couldnt get on forge more to help, after the last bit of work we did I thought you would be good to finish the rest up.

i really like this level design, the hard work shows, everything is looking really nice. Good job keep up the forgeing

I'm so sick and tired of seeing the same map over and over again.

No offence to the original poster, it just seems that everyone inside of this forge forum thinks that two bases and a middle structure created a bit different makes it completley unique from everyone elses map. (It doesn't)

Seriously people, let's create some creative and original ideas, then make maps based on those. :-?

Couldn't agree more. People should make more Asymmetrical small balanced maps.

Well lets see some of your creative original ideas. It's easy to come in here and call someones map unoriginal and uncreative. It's hard enough to make anything even close to decent with all the limitations of forge. If you got a problem with the maps being created here you should make a thread about it or make your own original creative map.

Looks like the op put a lot of hard work and creativity in to the building stage, just not the planning stage.

If we ever get a better Sandbox we will have many new options.

About the 2 base thing...

Midship, Beaver Creek, Sanctuary...all good maps with the 2 base design. It's really hard to make something original like Lockout in forge...

Warlock is another good map. It was 4 bases and a center structure, we also have maps like that that have been created in forge.

Almost all the good maps in H2 were 2 base maps. There aren't too many different designs used in competitive Halo maps...2 base is a good layout, that's why it is used so much.

It's not easy to make a good, balanced map that's not a 2 or 4 base.

Well then he should have used the search button and bumped your thread up. I won't even bother responding to that horrible analogy you made. :shock:

I'm having trouble seeing how that analogy could have been any more perfect... he's critiquing something, and you said that instead of critiquing he should of just made his own map. But as a forum-goer its his job to provide feedback... the same way a movie critic is supposed to watch movies and then alert the public that this romantic comedy was formulaic.


Anyways, the point is that:

1. Halo 2 shouldn't be your basis for good maps.
2. The 2 base maps posted here are nothing like sanctuary and beaver creek. Every single one of them imitates Midship, or, more closely, Onslaught.


The truth of the matter is that they all play pretty much the same, not very good way. They all cater to cross-map team shooting which isn't a strength of Halo 3's at all. Cross-mapping in a Foundry sized space is inconsistent and shoddy. The ideal range, as I've said again and again, is medium range. Close combat is horrible. Halo 3 maps should be modeled much more closely to Halo 1 styles because there is more shooting skill in Halo 3 than in Halo 2 (if you're at medium range).
